The wave of acid house that swept the Big Apple's underground dance music scene in the 90's had a profound influence on Minneapolis-based Zak Khutoretsky, more commonly known as DVS1, helping inform and shape his signature sound. He wanted to shake the foundations of his home town, with his custom built sound system and with every divergent strain of techno he could find. His Hush parties attained legendary status in the mid west and a whole movement sprang up around them. The brand name still holds true today, so much so that he used the very same name to christen his studio, where he helps nurture young talent, and one of his two record labels, the other being Mistress Recordings, which have run in parallel since 2013. Although he is almost unanimously hailed as a proper techno DJ, Zak feels this tag is a little too narrow to describe what he does, since he strongly believes that a DJ set should not be constrained to a single genre and maintains that he feels equally at home on the main floor at Berghain as he does at Panorama Bar where he frequently tears down the myth that has been built up around him. In a few weeks he will release his contribution to the Fabric Mix Series (number 96 to be exact) and we feel this is definitely the perfect moment for a return visit from DVS1. Picture Berlin in the Early 90's. Techno is still a nascent, cutting edge form of music moulded by a handful of artists and labels whose meticulous studio work is bringing new meaning to the word "deep" and whose unbridled exploration of the lower end of the frequency spectrum is revealing previously unknown delights. Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus paved the way with their label and project, Basic Channel, that would later spawn the legendary Chain Reaction. It is here that Peter Kuschenreit, also known as Substance aka DJ Pete, and Scion (along with Vainqueur and Tyro) release their first pieces of music, placing themselves firmly at the forefront of this quiet revolution. Time passes and at the turn of the new century, DJ Pete presents us with "CD Scion Arrange and Process Basic Channel Tracks", a timeless classic that is a fundamental building block for the whole modern techno movement. We could also mention Hardwax, the notorious Berlin record store that serves as his headquarters, or his Wax Treatment Podcast, but the proof of his genius is more genuinely experienced on a dance floor with eyes closed while DJ Pete spins records that recount stories of days gone by along side tales of the distant future. Queria abalar as estruturas da cidade, com o próprio sistema de som e com o techno que em meados dos anos 90 o inspirava, quer pela inovação quer pelas diferentes formas com que revestia. As festas Hush tornaram-se célebres e um movimento undeground em torno delas começava a formar-se. "Hush" acompanha-o até hoje, dando nome ao estúdio por si fundado e que abriga uma série de jovens artistas, à empresa de som já encerrada, e à própria editora que desde 2013 funciona a par com a Mistress Recordings. Embora unanimemente considerado um dj de proper techno, Zak não se revê completamente nessa catalogação, crendo que um dj set não se deve restringir a um único género, e sente-se bem ao subir a escadaria que leva do Berghain ao Panorama Bar onde destrói parte do mito criado em seu redor. A poucas semanas de vermos editado o "seu" Fabric 96, é o momento mais que indicado para DVS1 nos voltar a visitar. Berlim, inicio dos anos 90. Podemos falar ainda falar da Hardwax, a famigerada loja de disco berlinense que lhe serve de quartel general, ou do seu Wax Treatment Podcast, mas o melhor é estarem de frente para a cabine, de preferência de olhos fechados porque se é da história que se alimenta DJ Pete, é muito mais do futuro que nos quer falar.
