Rich cultural and ecological histories stimulate the designing of new food experienes. By co-exploring our past food stories how can we re-imagine, re-design, and develop new concepts together? Welcome all ages, locals and ‘new locals’ alike! 1. Introduction and warm-up exercises. 2. Developing our history timeline. 3. On the plate: Food, past and present. 4. Plates of the future: Co-designing our meals. A workshop facilitated by Alastair Fuad-Luke, sustainable design facilitator, educator, writer and activist, currently Professor of Design Research at the University of Bolzano, Italy. My books include Agents of Alternatives (co-edited), Design Activism and The Eco-Design Handbook and The EcoTravel Handbook. Presently I am Professor of Design Research at the Faculty of Design and Art, at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in Italy. Previously I was Professor of Emerging Design Practices at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Aalto University, Finland, exploring approaches based upon co-design, openness and sharing, and at the Department of Communication and Art, University of Aveiro, Portugal. I believe that participation in designing is critical to achieve sustainability transition, as well as being a means to catalyse social well-being and alternative economies which nourish Our Commons, see Agents of Alternatives and Window874. Explorations in recent years embrace an Open Fashion Design Network, Mode Uncut; a Codesign Manual, Return on Giving, for the City of Lahti, Finland and contributions to an Eco-Innovera European research project, SHIFT, Support Systems for Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Transformation, about how to better support eco-innovation SMEs and startups. Present research explorations include: dissonant design; design f(r)ictions; design, agri-culture and Alternative Food Networks; complimentary relational designers; and the creation of new livelihoods within alternative economies".
