As cadeiras e banquinhos de tabua faziam parte do mobiliário elementar da casa algarvia. O assento era feito com a “tabua”, Thypha s.p, uma planta herbácea que se encontra junto aos cursos de água. Este material flexível, resistente e duradouro, é uma das várias matérias vegetais disponíveis na natureza que podem ser usadas de forma criativa e ecológica.
Neste workshop irá fazer o assento do seu próprio banquinho de tabua.

Workshop “Weaving a bench with bulrush (cattail)
The "tabua” (bulrush), Typha, is a herbaceous plant that grows next to waterways, and is traditionally used in the Algarve for weaving benches and chairs. This flexible material, strong and durable, it's one of the several vegetable materials available in nature that can be used in a creative and environmentally friendly manner.
In the workshop participants will learn how to weave the seat of a wooden bench. An object made by you to take home and cherish.
Program:
- Explanation of how to catch and treat bulrush
- Make the weaving
- Stringing the plant
- Add more plant in the weaving process
- Finishing the weave
- Filling with the rush left overs.
