PT ‘Cheguei a casa e pensei: eu gosto mesmo de fazer isto!’ surge como uma retrospetiva dos últimos 10 anos de Rua das Gaivotas 6, pelo olhar de Alípio Padilha, nosso fotógrafo de residência que tem acompanhado as várias caras deste espaço.
‘A fotografia tem esta magia, podemos estar lá e regressar àquele lugar vezes sem conta sem nunca lá ter estado. E eu, ao olhar para aquelas fotografias, consigo habitar o passado do meu passado, mesmo antes de eu ou a minha mãe terem nascido. Acho que a minha paixão em fotografar espectáculos vem daí… Muitas vezes termino uma sessão e penso: esta performance, este trabalho monstruoso desta gente, quando terminar, só sobreviverá através das minhas fotografias. Há espectáculo que aconteceram apenas duas ou três vezes, que foram vistos por 100 ou 200 pessoas, mas que depois foram discutidos, pensados, estudados por muitas mais que podem saber como foi porque alguém esteve lá a fotografar no momento em que aconteceu… Claro que eu não sabia na altura que me ia tornar num fotógrafo de cena, mas acho que foi a brincar com aquela caixa de fotografias da minha avó e a roubar a polaroid do meu pai que me tornei fotógrafo.’
EN ‘I came home and thought: I really like doing this!‘ appears as a retrospective of the last 10 years of Rua das Gaivotas 6, through the eyes of Alípio Padilha, our resident photographer who has accompanied the various faces and phases of this space.
‘Photography has this magic…you can be there and return to that place over and over again without ever having been there. And when I look at those photographs, I can inhabit the past of my past, even before my mother or I were born. I think that’s where my passion for photographing shows comes from… I often finish a session and think: this performance, this monstrous work by these people, when it’s over, will only survive through my photographs. There are shows that have only happened two or three times, which have been seen by 100 or 200 people, but which have then been discussed, thought about, studied by many more who may know what it was like because someone was there photographing it at the moment it happened… Of course, I didn’t know at the time that I was going to become a scene photographer, but I think it was in playing with that box of my grandmother’s photographs and stealing my father’s Polaroid that I became a photographer.’
