Presentation of the Work in Progress of the artist in residency Elya May. «The Nature of my Self» Project reflects our primal and deep connection with nature, and nature as an origin of life and creativity. It is by trying to understand nature and its secrets that we try to understand ourselves. It is as we look into the mirror.
The project tries to bring different elements together. Painting and photography, video, installation and performance.

BIO
Elya May (Ellina Lapovok) was born in 1977 in former USSR in Sverdlovsk. When May turned 13 her mother has moved with her to Melbourne, Australia. She studied ‘Fine Arts’ at Monash University, and later ‘Interactive Media’ at ‘Victorian College of the Arts’. Since 2008 Elya May lives and works in Berlin. 
Works of Elya May, were exhibited in various Art Galleries across the world from Australia and Turkey to Germany and Spain. She received university prize ‘Fields of Vision’, and prestigious ‘Pratt Foundation Scholarship’. Her work was also included in ‘Palm Press’ art publications in 2013 and ‘Creative Contemporary Artists’ magazine.
May’s work encompasses painting, interactive media and performance and deals with interpretation and critic of social constructs in an emotive manner. May often does this through reinterpreting classical fables and visual storytelling from a strongly personal and feminine perspective.
