Um novo capítulo na investigação em curso dos artistas interdisciplinares radicados em Berlim, Reza Mirabi e Jozefien Beckers, sobre Irracionalidade e Risco e o seu potencial para reestruturar normas sociais e económicas.

Cidades invisíveis – obra com o nome do famoso livro de Italo Calvino, que retrata as viagens de Marco Polo por inúmeras cidades do império decadente de Kublai Khan – reinventa paisagens urbanas reais e fantásticas. Tal como as imagens poéticas de Marco Polo, a performance explora a percepção de lugar, transformada por influências pessoais, como a memória, o desejo, a perda, bem como factores culturais, como a história e os média. 

A performance move-se entre a representação e o figurado, como qualquer cidade, que é tanto ideia e experiência psicológica e emocional, como conjunto de asfalto, tijolos, metal e vidro.  Os artistas traduzem várias cidades – ou as impressões que estas evocam – em movimento, tinta, gesso, luz e som, relembrando o papel que todos os sentidos têm na percepção e memória dos lugares.

Como o arquiteto Aldo Rossi defendeu, “a arquitetura, para alcançar sua grandeza, deve ser esquecida ou constituir tão só uma imagem de referência confundida com lembranças.” Se a cidade mantém a nossa memória colectiva, como Rossi escreveu, está sujeita aos mesmos desvios e mutações de tempo e, na verdade, torna-se uma teia fragmentada de reflexões do original e, talvez, em última análise, algo mais. Cidades Invisíveis apresenta uma interpretação do ambiente construído e seu reflexo nas nossas vidas emocionais, psicológicas e intelectuais, enquanto reflexão sobre o prolongamento da vida da cidade na imaginação e nos nossos sonhos, projetando novas imagens do nosso passado e futuro.

ARTISTAS
Jozefien Beckers, originalmente da Bélgica, onde estudou Teatro e Representação, radicou-se em Berlim. Após finalizar a licenciatura no HZT, tem trabalho na àrea da Performance em vários projetos, dentro e fora de Berlim. Está, também, envolvida em diferentes projetos de Dança, em Bruxelas.

Reza Mirabi, passou 7 anos na India, onde trabalhou, intensamente, o corpo e a mente. Voltou a Berlim, há 1 e meio. Actualmente, trabalha com vários coreógrafos, bailarinos e artistas visuais, em galerias e espaços de exposição. Focado na Dança e na sua investigação.

Irrational_Studies: Invisible Cities 
Peformance by Reza Mirabi and Josefien Beckers

A new chapter in the ongoing research by Berlin based interdisciplinary artists, Reza Mirabi and Jozefien Beckers on Irrationality and Risk and its potential to restructure social and economical norms. 

Titled after Italo Calvino's beloved book - which imagines Marco Polo's vivid descriptions of numerous cities of a fading empire to Kublai Khan - the work re-imagines urban landscapes both familiar and fantastical. Like Marco Polo's poetic imagery the work explores how our perceptions of place are shaped by personal influences as diverse as memory, desire, and loss, as well as by cultural forces such as history and the media. 
The performance ranges from the representational to the abstract, reminding us that any city is as much an idea or psychological and emotional experience as an assemblage of asphalt, brick, steel, and glass. The artists translate various cities - or the impressions that they conjure -- in movement, paint, plaster, light and sound, reminding us of the role all the senses play in knowing or remembering place. 

The architect Aldo Rossi wrote, "In order to be significant, architecture must be forgotten, or must present only an image for reverence which subsequently becomes confounded with memories." If the city keeps our collective memory, as Rossi wrote, it is subject to the same deviations and mutations of time and, in fact, becomes a fragmented web of reflections of the original and perhaps, ultimately, something more. Invisible Cities presents an interpretation of the built environment and its reflection in our emotional, psychological, and intellectual lives while musing on the city's extended life in the imagination and in our dreams, conjuring up new images of both our past and future.

Jozefien Beckers
originally from Belgium where I studied Theater and Acting, now based in Berlin. After finishing the BA-program at HZT a few years back, working with Performance Arts in various projects and venues in and outside Berlin. And involved in several ongoing Dance Performances in Brussels.

Reza Mirabi
having spent 7 years in India, working intensely with body, mind and beyond, I am back in Berlin since 1,5 years. Now working for several Choreographers and Dance Makers as well as Visual Artists in Galleries and Exhibition spaces. Putting more focus on Dance Making and practice research.
