Festival of Minimal Actions

How do you keep a performance alive? 

For German artist Thomas Geiger, the answer is letting it live on through repetition. For the Festival of Minimal Actions, he re-performs actions and interventions other artists have made in the public sphere. After Brussels and Paris, he is bringing the festival to San José, Costa Rica, where he will repeat twenty-eight performances by Latin American artists for random passersby and onlookers.

Each performance will be condensed into a descriptive statement and printed onto a large flag. As each one happens, its respective flag will be raised along Despacio’s facade and made visible to anyone making their way down San José’s central avenue.

Festival of Minimal Actions opens March 3 (7-10pm) at Despacio. The beginning of the festival will coincide with the opening of Maya Rochat's solo show El río como una roca.

¿Cómo mantenemos un performance con vida? 

Para el artista Thomas Geiger, la respuesta es dejarlo vivir a través de la repetición. Para el Festival de Acciones Mínimas, él re-performa acciones e intervenciones que otros artistas han realizado en la esfera pública. Primero en Bruselas y París, ahora él traerá el festival a San José, donde repetirá veintiocho performances de artistas latinoamericanos que transeúntes y espectadores azarosamente podrán presenciar.

Cada performance será condensado en una oración descriptiva e impreso en una gran bandera. En la medida que cada uno ocurra, su respectiva bandera será desplegada a lo largo de la fachada de Despacio, con el fin de que sea vista por cualquiera que atraviese la Avenida Central.

Opening: 3 de Marzo (7-10pm) en Despacio.
