Os têxteis têm uma enorme pegada ecológica e não deveriam ser deitados fora, mas reutilizados tanto quanto possível. O problema é que os modos convencionais de reutilização e reciclagem de têxteis  ainda não são suficientes e a indústria de moda baseia-se numa economia linear e num modelo de consumo insustentável.
A iniciativa  Re:Costura surgiu assim com o intuito de repensar o modelo existente, e o conceito de re-desenhar roupas que estavam no fundo do armário, mas que ainda tinham algum potencial,  baseando-se numa  filosofia de reutilização e ação colaborativa que pretende contribuir para a construção de uma sociedade sustentável.
Pretendemos inspirar o público a reutilizar roupas usadas de uma forma criativa, através da valorização da matéria-prima, vendo a transformação como método preventivo do desperdício e também criar uma plataforma de ligação entre consumidores e produtores de roupa locais. 

Nesta oficina existe a oportunidade de dar uma segunda vida à roupa que já não é usada, recuperando e  transformando em novas peças feitas à medida. Numa primeira fase, as peças de roupa trazidas pelos participantes  são avaliadas pelas designers e modistas que fazem parte do projeto, numa acção de consultoria sobre as possibilidades e potencialidades  de transformação. De seguida, são  encaminhadas para a equipa de costureiras que irá proceder à sua construção.

Textiles have a huge ecological footprint and shouldn’t be thrown away, but instead reused as much as possible. The problem is that the conventional ways of reusing and recycling textiles are still not enough and the fashion industry is based on a linear economy and an unsustainable consume model. 
The Re:Costura initiative came up with the intent to rethink the existing model and with the concept of redesigning clothes that were in the bottom of the closet but still had some potential, basing itself in a reusing philosophy and collaborative action that aims to contribute for the construction of a sustainable society. 
Our goal is to inspire the public to reuse their old clothes in a creative way, by acknowledging the value of materials, looking at the transformation process as a preventive method of waste and also creating a connection between the consumers and the local clothing producers.

In this workshop there is an opportunity to give a second life to the clothes that are not used anymore, recovering and transforming them in new ones, made by measure. 
In a first stage, the pieces brought by the participants are evaluated by the designers and dressmakers that are part of the project, in a consulting action focused on the possibilities and potential of the transformation. Following that, the pieces are then passed to the sewing team that will complete the making of this new piece.
