[for English please scroll down] DOCUMENTA 14 Uma Ópera do Mundo, 2017 um filme de Manthia Diawara A documenta 14 (Atenas) e a Maumaus / Lumiar Cité apresentam, em colaboração com Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development e ZDF/3sat, a estreia mundial de Uma Ópera do Mundo, o mais recente filme realizado por Manthia Diawara. O filme é baseado na ópera africana " Bintou Were, a Sahel Opera", uma narrativa do eterno drama da migração. A ópera filmada em Bamako em 2007, serve de espelho para Manthia Diawara construir uma história estética e reflexiva, através da música e da dança, sobre a atual crise dos refugiados e a tragédia intemporal da migração entre Sul e Norte, examinando a realidade dos encontros culturais através dos conceitos de mestiçagem e hibridismo. O sucesso e o limite da fusão das perspetivas africana e europeia são testados pelas interpretações entrelaçadas da ópera "Bintou Were, a Sahel Opera" com arquivos do passado e do presente relativos a imagens de migrações, com árias clássicas europeias e com entrevistas a intelectuais, artistas e ativistas sociais, europeus e africanos. The film is based on ‘Bintou Were, a Sahel Opera’, which narrates an eternal immigration drama. The opera, filmed in Bamako, in 2007, serves a mirror for Diawara to build an aesthetic and reflexive story, through song and dance, about the current and yet timeless drama of emigration between North and South, and refugee crises. The film ponders about the realities of cultural encounters through the concepts of métissage and hybridity. The success and limits of fusing African and European perspectives are tested by interlacing performances from ‘Bintou Were, a Sahel Opera’, past and present archival footages of migrations, classic European arias and interviews with European and African intellectuals, artists and social activists. The film will soon be presented in Portugal, on a date to be announced.
