OPEN CALL 2026 | Annual Grant 
Residency Program ZARATAN AIR
DEADLINE | January 20 until February 28th, 2026 (24h00)
ELIGIBILITY | Emerging and professional artists, performers, musicians, curators, writers and other cultural agents are eligible to apply. The residency program is designed for international artists - or national artists residing abroad - for the development of artistic projects, individual or collective. Zaratan defends a multidisciplinary and experimental attitude, where all the areas and the languages of the artistic expression are considered.
DURATION | 4 weeks
RESIDENCY PERIOD | Between May 2026 and December 2026 
GRANT | Once a year Zaratan offers a 4 weeks residency grant, which cover the studio and accommodation fees for one artist selected through the applications process.
ABOUT ZARATAN AIR | Driven by the desire to intensify and exchange knowledge with artists through creative and productive practices, in 2015 Zaratan announced the promotion of an international art residency. Our goal is to mix experienced with emerging artists and give them the possibility to bring their work in an experimental context through exchange and collaboration within the local network. The artists-in-residence at Zaratan are given the opportunity to develop a project over a fixed period of time, and to reflect and consolidate their artistic practice in the specific context of Lisbon. 
We provide private accommodation, 24/7 private working studio, technical assistance, promotion and communication support, open public presentation of the residency process. Although labs and technique-specific facilities are not available, we will do our best to fulfill your needs, providing logistical support for producing work and events within our network of partners and collaborators. All artists are encouraged and welcome to share the outcome of their residency through talks, performance, open studios or other format o publi presentations.
APPLICATION PROCESS | If you wish to apply to our annual grant please email us at production@zaratan.pt with the following information (1 PDF file not exceeding 24mb): 
- Bio/CV; 
- Portfolio or website; 
- Description of the work/project you intend to carry on during the residency; 
- Period you intend to stay at Zaratan.
APPLICATION EVALUATION | Applications are evaluated by a selection committee comprised of artists, curators, community members and spaces board members. Applicants will be notified via email as soon as possible after selections has been made. 
Beside being submitted for our annual grant, the applications will be evaluated for our regular program of residencies in 2026, which requires the payment of a residency fee. 
If accepted, we are available to assist residents with funding applications.

ELEGIBILIDADE | O programa Residências Artísticas 2026 encontra-se aberto à participação de artistas visuais, músicos, performers, curadores, escritores e outros agente do mundo da arte e da cultura. Destina-se para artistas internacionais ou portugueses residentes no estrangeiro para desenvolvimento de projetos artísticos, individuais ou coletivos. Aceitam-se propostas de qualquer área artística. A Zaratan defende uma atitude multidisciplinar e experimental, onde todas as áreas e as linguagens da expressão artística são consideradas.
DURAÇÃO | 4 semanas
PERÍODO DA RESIDÊNCIA | Entre Maio 2025 e Dezembro 2026
APOIO | Estão atualmente a decorrer as candidaturas para o subsídio de residência de 4 semanas, que cobre os custos inerentes ao estúdio e alojamento para um candidato selecionado. A OPEN CALL ENCONTRA-SE ABERTA DE 20 DE JANEIRO A 28 DE FEVEREIRO 2026.
ZARATAN AIR | A fim de trocar conhecimento com outros artistas através de práticas criativas, a Zaratan inicia em 2015 a promoção de uma residência artística que oferece espaço de trabalho, possibilidade de exposição e desenvolvimento profissional para artistas internacionais em Lisboa (Portugal). Os artistas residentes na Zaratan têm a oportunidade de desenvolver um projeto durante um período fixo de tempo para refletir e consolidar a sua prática artística através do intercâmbio com a comunidade criativa local. Providenciamos um apartamento completamente funcional, que inclui um quarto e estúdio privado no andar superior da galeria, apoio na promoção / comunicação, e várias oportunidades e formatos de apresentações abertas ao público durante o processo de residência. Embora a Zaratan não tenha laboratórios disponíveis, faremos o melhor para atender às necessidades dos artistas, fornecendo suporte logístico para a produção de trabalhos e eventos através de nossa rede de parceiros e colaboradores.
CANDIDATURA | A forma de concorrer às residências é feita por candidatura espontânea, sujeita a aprovação. Solicitamos 1 ficheiro PDF máximo 24mb para o email production@zaratan.pt que compile a seguinte informação: 
- Nota biográfica; 
- Resumo do projeto a ser desenvolvido na residência; 
- Portefólio e/ou link sobre o trabalho; 
- Duração e data de início da residência
SELECÇÃO DAS CANDIDATURAS | As candidaturas são avaliadas por um comité formado por artistas, curadores membros da associação Zaratan. Os candidatos serão notificados por e-mail o mais rápido possível após as propostas terem sido examinadas. 
Além de serem avaliadas para o subsídio anual, as propostas serão apreciadas para o programa regular de residências da Zaratan em 2026, que requer o pagamento de um valor mensal.
