O ponto de partida para esta exposição é um vídeo do YouTube de uma coruja a flutuar numa piscina, com as asas abertas para se manter à tona. Não sei como a coruja foi lá parar, nem o que sinto em relação a isso, por isso vou ver o vídeo repetidamente. Abrandá-lo, ampliar a imagem. Enquanto penso nisto, ponho-me aqui, agacho-me um pouco, na prateleira de baixo onde a minha impressora está, a derramar imagens lentamente, um catálogo de 1936, ou melhor: fotos das imagens tiradas com o meu telemóvel, de modo que esta imagem inclui a página e o espaço entre elas (89 anos de espaço). Se consigo segurá-lo, consigo ter uma perceção daquilo, mas a minha impressora está a ficar sem tinta. As imagens saem com falhas, rasgadas, um novo conjunto de marcas que as levam para outro lugar.
Se conseguir torná-la maior, se a conseguir esticar um pouco, aquele bocado de pena, com este bocado de falha, pausar e tentar de novo. Se conseguir meter os dedos, o acaso e a sorte e a colisão disto tudo, encontrar uma pedra com um furo a meio, ou antes _____ uma única batata frita salgada. O coro de colaboradores, incluindo o tempo (meteorológico), o meu humor, o dia de ontem, a pessoa com quem te cruzaste na rua. Nada se comporta como espero. Algo intervém sempre para levar as coisas numa direção diferente. Não acredito em intervenção divina, e no entanto…

BIOGRAFIA: ISOBEL ATACUS é uma artista que vive e trabalha em Londres (Reino Unido). A sua prática incorpora escultura, texto e performance, através dos quais questiona a natureza fugaz e ambígua das interações que ocorrem no plano físico. Redirecionando e redescrevendo de forma lúdica os fluxos de informação que nos chegam de todos os lados, Atacus cria cenários e encontros onde as regras são deliberadamente mal aplicadas. O seu trabalho curatorial, ensino e pedagogia assumem frequentemente uma forma colaborativa, e está a concluir um doutoramento de investigação em prática artística (practice-based PhD) entre o King’s College London e a Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. Paralelamente à sua prática individual, dirige o espaço de artistas the icing room. As suas exposições individuais recentes incluem Undercover reach, no The Argo Annex, Atenas (Grécia), e sometimes when, na St. Margaret’s House Chapel, Londres (Reino Unido). As exposições coletivas recentes incluem The Wicker Arms, Staffordshire St., Londres (Reino Unido), All mouth no trousers, Three Rooms, Londres (Reino Unido), Clinging on, twoplustwo, Londres (Reino Unido) e The floor is lava, 125 Shaftesbury Avenue, Londres (Reino Unido).

«Loose limbed, shake off the drips sheer – pool of it – the up and down and out of place of it – take the rough with the smooth and the glitch with ______________ _________»
The starting point for this exhibition is a youtube video of an owl floating in a swimming pool, its wings outstretched to keep it afloat. I don’t know how the owl got there, or what I feel about it, so I’m going to watch the video over and over again. Slow it down, zoom in. While I think about this, I stand over here, crouch down a bit, the lower shelf where my printer sits, slowly spilling images, a catalogue from 1936, or rather: photos of the images taken with my phone, so this image includes the page and the space between (89 years of it). If I can hold it, I can get a sense of it, but my printer is running out of ink. The images come out glitchy, ruptured, a new set of marks that take them somewhere else. If I can make it bigger, if I can stretch it out a bit, that bit of feather, with this bit of glitch, pause and try again. If I can poke my fingers in, the chance and luck and collision of it, find a stone with a hole through the middle, or rather _____ a single salty crisp. The chorus of collaborators, including the weather, my mood, yesterday, the person you met on the street. Nothing behaves as I expect it to. Something always intervenes to take things in a different direction. I don’t believe in divine intervention, yet…

Her practice incorporates sculpture, text and performance, through which she questions the fleeting and ambiguous nature of interactions that take place in the physical realm. Playfully re-directing and re-describing the streams of information that come at us from all sides, Atacus creates scenarios and encounters where rules are wilfully misapplied. Her curatorial work, teaching and pedagogy frequently take collaborative form, and she is completing a practice-based PhD between King’s College London and the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. Alongside her individual practice she directs the icing room artist run space. Recent solo exhibitions include Undercover reach, the argo annex, Athens (GR), and sometimes when, St. Margaret’s House Chapel, London (UK).
