Titania Seidl in The Grotto / n' A Gruta Opening: 15 June, 6-9 pm / Inauguração: 15 Junho, 18-21h Quadrado Azul, Lisboa ENG Titania Seidl (1988, Vienna, AT) is the second artist invited to develop a painting intervention on the walls of The Grotto. The mural paintings in the grotto are overlapping and juxtaposing, in a collective process of appropriation, erasure and establish a community among all the participants. Titania Seidl's paintings have a diagrammatic quality by the way they accumulate various types of input (of art itself, of personal, social, and political history). Her recent works show curtains that become sculptural elements suspended in the sky. The original motifs are fabrics painted in the Baroque period that covered the nakedness of women. By giving autonomy to these elements, Seidl's painting, suspends the quality or functionality of the motif, its time and its gravity, gaining an emancipatory quality. Parallel to her recent paintings, the artist has been developing work through language - in the form of text, which unfolds her internal and micronarrative concerns, which reinforces the intentionality of her painting as a place for introspection and individuation. The work of the artist will be challenged by the protuberances and roughness of the walls of the Grotto, its non-architecture - its affirmative and non-rational force, its natural and artificial qualities, which places on us below the dark cloud of the anthropocene. PT Titania Seidl (1988, Viena, AT) é a segunda artista convidada a desenvolver uma intervenção pictórica nas paredes d’A Gruta. As pinturas murais na gruta vão-se sobrepondo e justapondo, num processo colectivo de apropriação e apagamento, que cria comunidade entre todos os participantes. As pinturas de Titania Seidl têm uma qualidade diagramática , pelo modo como acumulam vários tipos de input (da própria arte, à história pessoal, social e política). Os seus trabalhos recentes apresentam cortinas que se tornam elementos esculturais, suspensos no céu. Os seus motivos originais são tecidos pintados no período barroco, que cobriam a nudez das mulheres. Ao autonomizar estes elementos, a pintura de Seidl realiza uma suspensão da qualidade ou funcionalidade do motivo, do seu tempo e da sua gravidade, que adquirem assim uma qualidade emancipatória. De forma complementar às sus pinturas recentes, a artista desenvolve um trabalho através da linguagem, sob a forma de texto, que desdobra as suas preocupações internas e micronarrativas, e que reforça a intencionalidade da sua pintura como lugar de introspecção e individuação. O trabalho da artista será desafiado pelas protuberâncias e irregularidades que definem as paredes d’A Gruta, a sua não-arquitetura, a sua força afirmativa e não racional, e a relação entre natural e artificial, que coloca sobre nós, a nuvem negra do antropoceno.
