Manuel Forte is a Portuguese-born and Mexico City-based artist working across painting, drawing, sculpture and installation. By combining these mediums he creates large-scale immersive environments that attain dimensionality through the poetic use of found objects and an approach to muralism that challenges traditional notions of where two-dimensional painting ends and sculpture begins. Thus posing the question: what is more important, the environment on which paintings are exhibited or the paintings themselves? His work addresses themes relating to domesticity and fantasy, reflecting on how domestic environments influence artistic production, favoring the personal, subjective and trivial experiences of everyday life that we share with friends and family.
