[IN] COUNTER (Exhibition)

Mais do que qualquer outro lugar, o Martim Moniz e os seus arredores encarnam a natureza conflituosa dos imaginários urbanos de Lisboa, prosperando como uma mistura fermentadora de culturas e identidades, localizada e globalizada ao mesmo tempo. Um lugar de lazer, comércio, piqueniques, e muita música. Mesmo que a praça ainda não tenha sido gentrificada, as áreas circundantes mudaram drasticamente, provocando uma dinâmica acelerada de incerteza, medo, e desconfiança. O que nesta área é hegemónico e qual é a alternativa? Qual é a forma assumida pelos sonhos daqueles que vivem, caminham e brincam através destes lugares? 
Centrando-nos na zona de Martim Moniz e Mouraria, pretendemos reflectir sobre a coexistência intercultural de uma zona densamente povoada, mostrando como a paisagem urbana e humana está progressivamente a ser definida e redefinida, impulsionada pela gentrificação e crises habitacionais. Através de acções artísticas abertas à participação, expostas no Prisma e em espaço público circundante, Carmen Bioque, Dela Christin Mießen, e os membros da Mais Uno +1 Alexia Alexandropolou, Alina Shpakova, Elizbieta Upė Rozanovaitė, Inês Nêves, e Marta Dorin questionam colectivamente e abrem uma conversa sobre as dinâmicas sociais e políticas deste bairro.

Após a licenciatura em História e Prática da Arte e Design na Kingston University London e o mestrado em Arte Multimédia na Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa, CARMEN BIOQUE é investigadora, curadora e artista multimédia de origem espanhola, reflectindo principalmente sobre práticas artísticas híbridas ligadas à imagem em movimento, instalação e música electrónica, com o objectivo de explorar a sinergia entre a paisagem de imagens e a paisagem sonora de modo a apelar às paisagens interiores emocionais do sujeito. O seu projecto mais recente, a tese final para o mestrado, baseou-se no nexo entre arte e estados alterados de consciência como um eco de um problema humano transcultural: a necessidade de uma experiência de "sair de si próprio" para tornar o presente mais habitável, ao mesmo tempo que aborda especificamente a cultura rave como a sua localização contemporânea. 
DELA CHRISTIN MIEßEN frequenta o Mestrado em Estudos Culturais: Gestão das Artes e da Cultura na UCP. Trabalha como editora freelancer para a Fundação Cultural Alemã e está envolvida em actividades curatórias em Lisboa. A sua investigação actual centra-se em noções de identidade cultural apresentadas nas artes visuais e na coexistência de diferentes (contra-)narrativas. 
MAIS UNO +1 é um colectivo de curadoria, projecto, e investigação que actua no sentido do poder transformador da arte através da criação de relações/ecossistemas incrementais entre artistas, comunidades e territórios. Este colectivo surgiu de uma vontade comum de: complementar e criar alternativas novas, mais horizontais e acessíveis para os circuitos institucionais de arte contemporânea baseados em relações colaborativas e transdisciplinares; expandir a prática artística a territórios e grupos que normalmente não estão incluídos na cena cultural, diversificando e enriquecendo o seu tecido sociocultural e o seu apoio mútuo; reflectir sobre o papel activo da prática artística como um projecto contínuo que cria novos imaginários e dinâmicas comunitárias, e promove práticas artísticas agregadoras, experimentais, emancipadas, e críticas. Mais uno +1 nasceu em Lisboa em Janeiro de 2022, e desde então tem desenvolvido vários projectos curatoriais, publicações e programas educacionais. O colectivo tem colaborado até agora com várias organizações tais como LARGO Residências, ArtPool, Fábrica Braço de Prata, entre outras.

Vernissage Art Talk from the Collective about their work and the process 
More than any other place, Martim Moniz and its surroundings embody the conflicted nature of Lisbon’s urban imaginaries, thriving as a fermenting mixture of cultures and identities, localized and globalized at the same time. A place of leisure, commerce, picnics, and lots of music. Even if the square might not have been gentrified yet, the surrounding areas have drastically changed, bringing about an accelerating dynamic of uncertainty, fear, and distrust. What in this area is hegemonic and what is alternative? What is the form taken by the dreams of those who live, walk, and play through these places? 
Focusing on the area of Martim Moniz and Mouraria, we intend to reflect on the intercultural coexistence of a densely populated area, showing how the urban and human landscape is progressively being defined and redefined, driven by gentrification and housing crises. Through artistic actions open to participation, displayed in Prisma and the surrounding public space, Carmen Bioque, Dela Christin Mießen, and the members of Mais Uno +1 Alexia Alexandropolou, Alina Shpakova, Elžbieta Upė Rozanovaitė, Inês Nêves, and Marta Dorin collectively question and open a conversation on the social and political dynamics of this neighborhood.

After graduating from the BA Art and Design History and Practice in Kingston University London and the MA in Multimedia Art in Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa, CARMEN BIOQUE is Spanish-born researcher, curator and multimedia artist mainly reflecting on hybrid art practices linked to the moving image, installation and electronic music with the aim of exploring the synergy between imagescape and soundscape as to appeal to the subject’s emotional innerscapes. Her most recent project, the final thesis for the MA, drew on the nexus between art and altered states of consciousness as an echo of a transcultural human problem: the need for an experience of 'going out of oneself' to make the present more habitable, while specifically addressing rave culture as its contemporary location. 
DELA CHRISTIN MIEßEN attends the MA in Culture Studies: Management of the Arts and Culture at UCP. She works as a freelance editor for the German Cultural Foundation and is involved in curatorial activities in Lisbon. Her current research focuses on notions of cultural identity presented in visual arts and the coexistence of different (counter-)narratives. 
MAIS UNO +1 is a curatorial, project, and research collective that acts towards the transformative power of art through the creation of incremental relationships/ecosystems between artists, communities, and territories. This collective emerged from a common will to: complement and create new, more horizontal, and accessible alternatives for the institutional contemporary art circuits based on collaborative and transdisciplinary relationships; expand art practice to territories and groups that are usually not included in the cultural scene, diversifying and enriching its socio-cultural tissue and its mutual support; reflect on the active role of art practice as a continuous project that creates new imaginaries and communal dynamics, and fosters aggregating, experimental, emancipated, and critical art practices. Mais uno +1 was born in Lisbon in January 2022, and has since then developed various curatorial projects, publications, and educational programs. The collective has collaborated so far with several organizations such as LARGO Residências, ArtPool, Fábrica Braço de Prata, among others.
