(english bellow) MARCHA PELA ÁGUA 💦 "Todos os caminhos vão dar ao rio!" 💦 A ÁGUA É A ESSÊNCIA DE TODA A VIDA, SEM ELA NADA PODE EXISTIR 💧🙏 Como forma de honrar a água e a sua importância para a vida, dia 22 e 25 de Março, juntamo-nos em Lisboa como resposta à negligência governamental relativamente à proteção dos ecossistemas e à salvaguarda dos recursos hídricos. Cuidar da água é cuidar da vida! Dado o panorama nacional dos últimos anos, em que se tem observado um agravamento da crise hídrica, incêndios florestais e eventos meteorológicos extremos, fazemos um chamado coletivo de ação pela proteção da água, florestas e ecossistemas. Muitas decisões dependem essencialmente da gestão governamental. Atualmente temos uma legislação que não salvaguarda de forma eficaz a proteção dos recursos hídricos, florestas e biodiversidade e está muito aquém das melhores práticas instituídas a nível europeu. Acrescenta-se a falta de competência por parte das autoridades de fiscalização: a Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente disponibiliza-nos resultados e indicadores insuficientes para verdadeiras avaliações de impacto ambiental, fazendo-nos questionar as motivações para projetos impensáveis irem avante. Estamos claramente face a legislação e práticas governamentais que ainda fazem prevalecer o modelo predominante, em que os interesses financeiros se colocam como prioridade face aos impactos ambientais e sociais. Por outro lado, temos projetos implementados em Portugal e no mundo que nos mostram que, mesmo em territórios de escassez hídrica, é possível restituir e até exponenciar a retenção da água, através da regeneração dos ecossistemas. Assim, sentimos necessidade de questionar as entidades governamentais do porquê de não serem exigidas práticas empresariais mais responsáveis, porque não estão a ser tomadas as decisões e ações devidas para prevenir a seca em Portugal, e a haver a aposta devida em projetos regenerativos. Quais os problemas que observamos? - Crescimento exponencial de projetos de agricultura intensiva em territórios de escassez de água, falta de legislação para estes projetos; - Falta de investimento e gestão eficiente das florestas, com a soberania de monoculturas, em especial eucaliptos, que contribuem para a seca, falta de biodiversidade e fácil propagação de fogos florestais; - Autorização para projetos de minas a céu aberto para a extração de lítio, junto de populações e lugares de importância ecológica: estes projetos despendem de uma enorme quantidade de água, secando os recursos hídricos da região, e têm um grande impacto ambiental - poluição do ar, solo, águas subterrâneas e rios próximos, destruição de florestas e ecossistemas e poluição sonora. - Poluição dos rios com descargas ilegais, muitas vezes por empresas ou indústrias, sem as devidas sanções. - Má gestão hídrica, em empreendimentos turísticos, como o caso dos campos de golf, sem controlo dos gastos de água, para a manutenção dos campos. Para mais informações: movimento@pelasaguaseserras.pt English Version: MARCH FOR THE WATER As a way of honoring water and its importance for life, on March 22nd and 25th, we will gather in Lisbon in response to governmental neglect of protecting ecosystems and safeguarding water resources. Caring for water is caring for life! Given the national panorama of recent years, in which we have observed a worsening of the water crisis, forest fires, and extreme weather events, we make a collective call to act for the protection of water, forests and ecosystems. Many decisions depend essentially on government management. Currently we have legislation that does not effectively safeguard the protection of water resources, forests and biodiversity and falls far short of the best practices instituted at the European level. Added to this is the lack of competence on the part of enforcement authorities: APA (Portuguese Environment Agency) provides us with insufficient results and indicators for a true environmental impact assessment, making us question the motivations for unthinkable projects to go ahead. We are clearly faced with legislation and governmental practices that prevail the predominant model, in which financial interests are placed as a priority over environmental and social impacts. On the other hand, we have projects implemented in Portugal and in the world that show us that, even in territories with water scarcity, it is possible to restore and even expand water retention, through the regeneration of ecosystems. Thus, we feel the need to question government entities about why why more responsible business practices are not being demanded, why the proper decisions and actions are not being taken to prevent the drought in Portugal, and to have the proper investment in regenerative projects. What are the problems we observe? -Exponential growth of intensive agriculture projects in water scarce territories, lack of legislation for these projects; -Lack of investment and efficient management of forests, with the sovereignty of monocultures, especially eucalyptus, which contribute to drought lack of biodiversity and easy spread of forest fires; -Authorization for open-pit mining projects for the extraction of lithium authorization for open pit mining projects for lithium extraction near populations and places of ecological importance-these projects use a huge amount of water, drying up the region's water resources, and have a major environmental impact - pollution of the air soil, groundwater and nearby rivers, destruction of forests and ecosystems, and noise pollution. -Pollution of rivers with illegal discharges, often by companies or industries industries, without proper sanctions. -Poor water management, in tourist resorts, such as golf courses, without control of water consumption for the maintenance of the fields. Claims: -Legislation on intensive agriculture projects, so that they take into account the available water resources, not authorizing projects that consume large amounts of water in places of water scarcity. -Investment in regenerative projects, which show increased biodiversity, water retention, organic matter and soil fertility. -New forest management plansfor more biodiverse forests and the protection of our forests -Promotion of environmental education appropriate to current issues -Reassessment of the contracts signed by the government for the prospection and exploitation of lithium in Portugal - Contribute with your suggestions regarding the problems you observe and provide suggestions for solutions until 18th March.
