“Sand used to be big rocks” Uma exposição de Angyvir Padilla & Yoel Pytowski Abertura: Sábado, 9 de Outubro, 17:00 - 20:00 Patente até 6 de Novembro, 2021 / “Sand used to be big rocks” An exhibition by Angyvir Padilla & Yoel Pytowski Opening: Saturday, 9th of October, 17:00 - 20:00 Until 6th of November, 2021 ~ O ponto de partida para esta segunda mostra conjunta da dupla Angyvir Padilla e Yoel Pytowski é o seu interesse comum por temas como a migração e a diáspora através da lente da geologia. Um conto sobre a viagem de uma rocha, desde o seu nascimento subterrâneo até à sua erosão e ao seu renascer mediante a sedimentação, estrutura a exposição. Nas suas práticas individuais, Padilla e Pytowski têm demonstrado particular interesse pelas instalações imersivas. Para Padilla este interesse tem sido centrado em objectos e estruturas mundanas, prontas para serem activadas pela artista ou para submergir o espectador num ambiente holístico. Pytowski, por sua vez, tem-se mostrado particularmente interessado em intervir na arquitectura dos espaços de exposição – reconfigurando-os, reconstruindo-os e voltando a imaginá-los. Angyvir Padilla (Caracas, 1987) estudou Comunicação Visual na Prodiseño (2004), em Caracas, Escultura na ENSAV La Cambre (2015) e Belas Artes na LUCA School of Arts (2018), em Bruxelas. Recentemente, Angyvir participou em várias exposições na Bélgica, Holanda, França, Venezuela e Grécia. Em 2020, foi seleccionada como terceira laureada do prémio Artcontest em Bruxelas (BE), e de Junho a Outubro de 2021, expõe no museu S.M.A.K em Gante (BE) como finalista do prémio “Friends of S.M.A.K”. Em Outubro de 2021, terá uma exposição individual no CENTRALE Vitrine em Bruxelas (BE) e, em Dezembro de 2021, apresentará outra exposição individual no FRAC Grand Large em Dunkerque (FR), como parte da Bienal Watch This Space, um projecto desenvolvido em parceria com o Château Coquelle e com o FRAC Grand Large, organizado pelo 50º Nord. Yoel Pytowski (Rehovot, 1986) vive e trabalha na Bélgica. Estudou na ENSAV La Cambre (2012) e na LUCA School of Arts (2018), em Bruxelas. Recentemente, Yoel participou em várias exposições tanto na Bélgica, como na Holanda, França ou Grécia. Em 2018, foi seleccionado como 1º laureado do prémio Artcontest, em Bruxelas (BE) e, até Novembro de 2021, estará a expor no Magma, na Trienal de Ottignies Louvain-La-Neive (BE). Realizou recentemente a exposição individual Façades, na Botanique Gallery em Le Centre culturel de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (BE, 2020), e One-Way Street, outra exposição individual no Espace Moss (BE, 2019). Este Outubro, participará numa exposição colectiva na Everyday Gallery (BE) e, em 2022, na residência francesa Moly Sabata (FR) juntamente com Angyvir Padilla. / The departing point for this second duo show of Angyvir Padilla and Yoel Pytowski is their common interest in migration and diaspora through the lens of geology. A tale on the journey of one rock, from its underground birth until its erosion and re-birth by sedimenting, structures the show. In their solo practices, Padilla and Pytowski have shown a particular interest in immersive installations. For Padilla, those can be objects about very mundane structures, ready to be activated by the artist or to submerge the viewer in a holistic environment. Pytowski has been particularly interested in intervening in the architecture of exhibition spaces - reconfiguring, rebuilding, and reimagining them. Angyvir Padilla (b.1987, Caracas) studied Visual communication at Prodiseño (2004) in Caracas, Sculpture at ENSAV La Cambre (2015) and Fine arts at LUCA School of Arts (2018) in Brussels. Recently, Angyvir has participated in several exhibitions between Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Venezuela, and Greece. In 2020, she was selected as the 3rd laureate of the Artcontest prize in Brussels (BE), and from June until October 2021 she is exhibiting at the S.M.A.K museum in Ghent (BE) as one the finalist of the ‘Friends of S.M.A.K prize’. In October 2021, she will be having a solo exhibition at the CENTRALE Vitrine in Brussels (BE) and in December 2021, she will present a solo exhibition at the FRAC Grand Large in Dunkerque (FR) as part of the biennial Watch This Space, a project developed in partnership with the Château Coquelle and the FRAC Grand Large, organized by 50º Nord.
