O espaço fornece-nos: informação que nos guia em decisões políticas quando lidamos com ações climáticas ou com a biodiversidade; serviços que nos dão o timing exato para transações bancárias; o desenvolvimento do futuro das cadeias de abastecimento autónomas; uma ferramenta para enfrentar pandemias. Mas o espaço é também fascinação e inspiração: da luta contra a gravidade para alcançar a órbita, até ao viajar através do sistema solar para retirar alguma energia aos planetas para acelerar as sondas. Os veículos espaciais que construímos são uma fonte de deslumbramento, por causa do conhecimento que com eles revelamos quando aterramos em cometas longínquos, mas também porque com eles podemos olhar de longe para o nosso “ponto azul”. Chiara Manfletti tem dupla nacionalidade, italiana e alemã. É formada em engenharia aeronáutica pelo Imperial College de Londres (2001), tem um mestrado em estudos espaciais pela International Space University (ISU) em Estrasburgo (2002) e um doutoramento pela Universidade de Aachen na Alemanha (2010). Tem também um mestrado em História pela Universidade Aberta no Reino Unido (2013). Trabalhou para o German Aerospace Center (DLR), como engenheira investigadora no campo da propulsão do foguete líquido, e em 2016 juntou-se à European Space Agency (ESA), onde é atualmente a conselheira de programas do Diretor-Geral na sede da agência em Paris. Em 2019 foi destacada em Portugal, para a construir a recém-fundada agência espacial Portuguesa, da qual foi presidente. Atualmente está de volta á ESA onde é chefe de coordenação de programas e diplomacia. . . . . . Chiara Manfletti has a dual Italian and German nationality. She holds a degree in aeronautical engineering from Imperial College London (2001), a master’s degree in "space studies" from the International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg (2002) and a PhD from German University of Aachen in Germany (2010). She also holds a master’s in history from Tthe UK Open University in the UK (2013). She worked for the German Aerospace Centere, (DLR), as a research engineer in the field of liquid rocket propulsion and in 2016 later joined the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2016, where she has been the Programme Advisor to the General Director General at the agency's headquarters in Paris. In 2019 she was seconded to Portugal to build up the newly founded Portuguese national space agency, Portugal Space, of which she was president. She is now back at ESA and is Head of Policy and Programmes Coordination.
