Artists Talk | Lindsay Benedict + Rowley Haynes 14 de Março às 18h | Entrada livre “Artist Talks” é um ciclo de conversas organizado pela Zaratan que oferece a oportunidade de encontrar os artistas internacionais em residência e de conhecer o seu processo criativo. No dia 14 de Março, os artistas Lindsay Benedict (US) e Rowley Haynes (UK) introduzem brevemente as suas práticas artísticas e as suas temáticas de pesquisa. >>> LINDSAY BENEDICT explora a apresentação do "imediato". Apresenta-nos fragmentos e gestos que examinam e questionam as relações sociais. No seu trabalho, o afecto e a emoção crua são frequentemente utilizados para perturbar e desestabilizar qualquer leitura simples das ligações humanas. A auto-indagação e a auto-apresentação são fundamentais para a sua prática artística, ao permitir-lhe apontar para a codificação cultural e a construção das nossas identidades. Ao usar seu corpo para lidar com questões de raça, cultura, religião e género, Benedict estabelece um conjunto exclusivo de parâmetros DIY para conduzir as suas investigações. O seu trabalho foi exibido nos Estados Unidos, Suíça, França, Itália, Canadá, Alemanha e Croácia em locais como: Berkeley Art Museum, Pacific Film Archive, Danspace, Les Laboratoires d'Aubervilliers, Le Confort Moderne, Centrale Fies, Antonio Ratti Foundation, The Knockdown Center, Dixon Place, The Tank, Movement Research Spring Festival, Lovely DAYS Film Festival, PARMER, PS 122, Le Cyclop de Jean Tinguely, Sonnenstube, Chocolate Factory, Languedoc-Roussillon Cinéma, Emergency Biennial, Detroit Museum of New Art (MONA), New Langton Arts,e algúns dos seus trabalhos estão conservados na ela trabalha na Art History & Classics library da Universidade da Califórnia, Berkeley. Benedict obteve um BA do Williams College, um MFA da Universidade da Califórnia, Berkeley e foi pesquisadora no Whitney Independent Study Program. >>> ROWLEY HAYNES é um jovem artista e pintor londrino. O seu trabalho recente explora a ideia do espaço do palco enquanto imitação da vida real, uma verdadeira reflexão não cínica. Observando a capacidade humana de criar ligações afectivas com as coisas, projectando a sua identidade em objectos e personagens exteriores, o trabalho de Haynes alimenta-se da encenação e de cenários imaginários para criar uma ilusão sincera. A partir da observação de objectos antigos e de personagens épicas está a desenvolver uma peça como ponto de partida para uma nova série de pinturas. Obteve um BA em Gravura e Pintura, na Glasgow School of Art e integra um ano de pós-graduação na Royal Drawing School, em Londres. Participou em várias exposições no Reino Unido e no exterior, como: “The Arches” (Glasgow, 2017), “Klasse Lucander”, Universität Der Kunste (Berlin, 2018), “Klasse Lucander”, Academy of Fine Arts Munich (Munich, 2018), “GIFC”, Fisher Parrish Gallery (New York, 2018), “Glue Factory”, (Glasgow, 2018), “Planet Earth 4”, Dornoch Project Space (Glasgow, 2018), GIFC, 0.0.la (Los Angeles, 2019), entre outras. On March 14, at 6PM,Lindsay Benedict (US) aNd Rowley Haynes (UK) will introduce briefly their artistic practices and research themes. >>> LINDSAY BENEDICT cultivates “the immediate” for presentation.She presents us with fragments and gestures that examine and question social relations. In her work, affect and raw emotion are often deployed to disrupt and destabilize any simple reading of human attachments. Self-enquiry and self-presentation is central to her practice, throwing light on the cultural coding and constructedness of our identities. By using her body to work through issues of race, culture, religion and gender, Benedict sets out a unique set of DIY parameters to explore. Much of his work explores the idea of the stage mimicking real life, a true, non-cynical reflection. Observing the human ability to attach affection to things that are detached from us, projecting our identities onto foreign objects and characters. Furthermore, Haynes' work has been fuelled by the thought of something being staged: a moment of a routine pretending to be a magical flash of life, something giving a sincere illusion. Starting from the observation of ancient objects, epic characters, and strange sets, he is currently developing a play as the source material for a new series of paintings. He obtained his Foundation from the Royal Drawing School and BA in Printing and Painting, at the Glasgow School of Art.
