This Is Not a Game Vitor Reis Underdogs Art Store Inauguração: 13 de Julho Parece, mas não é. O conjunto de coloridas peças em cerâmica que Vitor Reis aqui apresenta, poderá, à primeira vista, aparentar ser um insuspeito jogo de dardos como aqueles que podemos encontrar num qualquer bar ou salão de jogos pelo mundo fora. No entanto, um olhar mais atento revela que estes projécteis e estes alvos espelham uma outra natureza, uma outra realidade, um outro jogo. Através do aspecto aparentemente divertido que permeia a simplicidade desta instalação, o artista tece um comentário sério e incisivo sobre a perversidade da guerra e o modo leviano com que, hoje em dia, é frequentemente planeada e encarada. – Sobre o artista: Vitor Reis (1974), nasceu em Angola e mudou-se aos nove meses para as Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, onde ainda vive e trabalha. Descendendo de uma família de três gerações de oleiros tradicionais desta cidade conhecida pela sua tradição nesta área, começou por explorar a escultura mas acabou por adoptar a cerâmica como a sua linguagem de expressão. Licenciado em Artes Plásticas pela ESAD, Caldas da Rainha, frequentou ainda o Curso Avançado de Artes Visuais da Escola de Artes Visuais MauMaus, em Lisboa. Podendo actuar como artista plástico, designer ou artesão, o seu trabalho responde tanto ao meio que o rodeia como a questões da esfera social e política, captando com um toque contemporâneo muito da energia da tradição humorística, crítica e irónica das Caldas. The set of colourful ceramic pieces that Vitor Reis presents here might, at first, appear to be an unsuspicious game of darts like those we can find in any bar or games room around the world. However, a closer look reveals that these projectiles and these targets reflect another nature, another reality, another game. Through the seemingly fun appearance that permeates the simplicity of this installation the artist weaves a serious and incisive comment on the perversity of war and the light-hearted way in which, today, it is frequently planned and viewed. – About the artist: Vitor Reis (1974) was born in Angola and nine months later moved to Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, where he still lives and works. Descending from a family of three generations of traditional potters from this city known for its tradition in this field, he began by exploring sculpture but ended up adopting ceramics as his language of expression. With a degree in Fine Arts from ESAD, Caldas da Rainha, he also attended the Advanced Course in Visual Arts at the MauMaus School of Visual Arts, in Lisbon. Being able to act as an artist, a designer or a craftsman, his work responds both to his surrounding environment and to issues of the social and political sphere, capturing with a contemporary touch much of the energy from the humorous, critical and ironic tradition from Caldas.
