Art is a tool. Like a blade, a flame, or a vessel, art is a tool that we use to extend our abilities when our nature falls short. Art appears to be a tool that is crucial in our evolution - it is present in some form in all recorded human societies. We need art to help us with memory, hope, sorrow, rebalancing, understanding, growth and appreciation when our natural psychological capacities are insufficient.
This weekend, as the United States celebrate Thanksgiving across that vast ocean (#bestholidayever), we make the audacious claim that appreciation is akin to gratitude. And for gratitude, friends, just look around you. Look around you. Look around you.
