SÁBADO, DIA 25 DE NOVEMBRO

20h30
THE TASTE OF KOUMIZ (Le Goût du Koumiz) / Xavier Christiaens / Belgium / 2003 / 0:55:30
Before any form of action takes place, or a story unwinds, or a subject emerges, the screen is filled with the clearest of poetry that one can find. Black and white pictures from a time and place that can't be documented, but whose images evoke a long-forgotten book of Russian poetry. There is a story behind these beautiful images: that of a nomad who many years ago traded life in his village for the big city, and who now travels back to his roots to search after a forgotten past. Director Xavier Christiaens travelled to Kirghizstan and returned with this hypnotic reflection of longing and exile.

21h30
WHITE SHE-CAMEL (La chamelle blanche) / Xavier Christiaens / Belgium / 2006 / 0:52:00
This beautiful and mysterious film is by one of Belgium's most talented and peculiar directors. It is a poetic journey into the border areas of the disbanded Soviet Union where imperial power is still intact, if only as an accompaniment to the dream-like soundtrack that is a backdrop to the film's mix of fiction and strange, documentational moments. Christiaens has described his film in terms of Odysseus returning home after his exile and finding a completely new world where nothing is as it was before he left.

22h30
THE SON OF THE OLIVE MERCHANT (Le fils du marchand d’olives) / Mathieu Zeitindjioglou / France / 2011 / 1:14:00
Mathieu Zeitindjioglou, a filmmaker, born in France, whose Armenian grandparents fled Turkey during the Genocide, talks to Salpi Ghazarian about preparing a film about his name and his past while spending his honeymoon in Turkey. The film's title, "The Son of the Olive Merchant" is an exact translation of his last name, and the film is a journey through the lands of his grandparents.
