Creative Xchanges - Sep '17 Session

"Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But since no one was listening, everything must be said again." - André Gide

In our last talk, we took a walk on the "dark side of creativity". Now we're going to take a closer look at one of the factors that makes art great, namely originality.

The topic for September’s discussion: What is originality when everything has already been said and done?

Creative Xchanges is a monthly event that brings together creative minds from various walks of life to have conversations about art, creativity and the things that make life worth living. The panel is made of people immersed in the worlds of music, literature, theatre, design, fashion, fine arts, photography and much more. The public will have the chance to actively participate in the discussion.

The event is free. Since there are only 25 places available sign up is mandatory: http://peterdmurphy.com/events-2/upcoming/

The event is organized and moderated by Peter D. Murphy - writer of Irish origins, currently living in Lisbon, author of Lagan Love and the Life & Times Trilogy (http://peterdmurphy.com/books/). Currently part-time musician and responsible dog-owner, Peter finds himself guilty of supporting the art scene in Lisbon, particularly by helping young artists shine. He's passionate about lively conversations over a “bica” and is more than willing to play the “devil’s advocate” just because he’s Irish enough.

Guest Creatives or Creative Guests for September:

Esperanza Rodrigues - Musicologist
Esperanza has been trying to understand the world and herself since her teens through the practice of music. This search has led her to live in four different countries and to approach music from various angles including performance (as a singer and saxophonist), teaching and critical observation.
For the last decade she thinks of herself as a cultural musicologist, with a specific interest in the Early Modern period. Currently, as a post-doctoral researcher at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, she is studying the music and the culture of the Iberian world in the 15th and 16th centuries. She kills her spare time learning and playing ‘old’ instruments and ‘old’ music.

Hanmin Kim - Writer, Graphic Artist
Hanmin is a Korean writer and graphic-fictionist. He is the author of several graphic novels and storybooks for children. Now he lives in Portugal, translating poems of his favorite poet Fernando Pessoa. http://hanmin.me/
