THE CLOWN IS A POET IN ACTION (Henri Miller) INTERNATIONAL CLOWNWORKSHOP WITH TOM ROOS We are in search of our minimalistic clown and how to play him during improvisations. The minimalistic clown is a copy of ourselves, but more open, more naïve, more fragile, more spontaneous. He is in direct contact with the audience, here and now. To find him, we will take away what is too much, that what hides us, that what restrains. During improvising in your minimalistic clown, we will play deep in our body, we will let the movement precede the word, the action precede the thought, poetry precede ratio. We learn to play as an alert animal, that reacts immediately on moves and sounds.. On one hand, there is exercises in letting go, in accepting, in elimination of self-censuring, in generosity, in giving a fundamental yes to yourself, your audience and your fellow players. On the other hand we exercise precision, a way of drawing our play clearly readable, in creating tight images. As players, we see ourselves as image in movement. With our fellow players we search a rhythmical sequence of strong images, addressing ourselves to the imagination of our audience We will offer our shared moments of beauty with an audience on the clown festival of Villa do Conde. Number of participants : minimum 6, maximum 15. Some play experience is advised. During the workshop Alowies, ( www.alowies-art.be ), Tom Roos’ wife, a graphic artist, will make live drawings to document the whole. An exposition of Posters, made from this works, will be exposed in Villa do Conde.
