A longa história do BC Studio teve início em 1981 quando Brian Eno conheceu Bisi e juntos decidiram criar este estúdio onde viria a ser gravada alguma da música mais influente feita em Nova Iorque. Depois de produzir Eno no seu álbum "On Land" e após gravar inúmeros projectos avant-garde e hip-hop, Martin Bisi atingiu o sucesso com o single “Rockit” de Herbie Hancock, que foi o primeiro tema mainstream a utilizar a técnica de scratching num gira-discos e que foi premiado com um Grammy em 1983. Bisi estará presente no Parqe para apresentar o documentário “Sound and Chaos: The Story of BC Studio”, realizado por Ryan C. Douglass e Sara Leavitt, que inclui depoimentos de músicos como Michael Gira (Swans), Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), JG Thirwell (Foetus), Bill Laswell (Material) e muitos outros artistas que juntamente com Bisi, ajudaram a redefinir grande parte do som da música experimental nova-iorquina neste mítico estúdio situado em Brooklyn, que actualmente corre o risco de fechar por causa da especulação imobiliária e do processo de gentrificação que tem afectado a área nos últimos anos. Para além de produtor, Martin Bisi é também músico e actuará com a sua banda, interpretando os temas do seu álbum a solo “Ex Nihilo”, lançado pela editora Labelship em 2014. O trio, que nas datas europeias é constituído por Martin Bisi na guitarra e voz, Diego Ferri na guitarra barítona e Oliver Rivera-Drew na bateria, alterna entre o lado mais pesado do pós-rock e paisagens sonoras mais ambientais que evidenciam a densidade e as camadas orquestrais que têm sido a imagem de marca de muitas das produções de Bisi no BC Studio. Como vocalista, o seu estilo é bastante variado, passando por géneros como o hardcore, o dream/shoegaze e até o death-metal, resultando o todo numa amálgama de no wave, psicadelismo e pós-punk, bem ao jeito da cena musical nova-iorquina da qual Bisi é sem dúvida um dos maiores representantes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Martin Bisi, a New York indie rock performer and record producer has been at a crossroads of indie, punk, avant garde, noire/cabaret rock, and electronic music since the early 80's in New York City. At a recording studio he started in 1981 with the help of Brian Eno, Martin Bisi has realized albums by Sonic Youth, Swans, Dresden Dolls, Pop 1280 (Sacred Bones), White Hills (Thrill Jockey), Africa Bambaataa, John Zorn, Herbie Hancock's Rockit, Boredoms, Foetus, Helmet, Unsane, Serena Maneesh, US Maple, Jon Spencer's Boss Hog, and countless other indie, experimental and post-punk records. In his band's set, Bisi plays guitar and sings, and performs songs from his album Ex Nihilo (Labelship records UK). The band swings between the heavier post-rock of the songs, and ambient soundscapes that feature the density and orchestral layering notable on many of Bisi's productions. His vocal style is very varied, covering Hardcore, dream/shoe-gaze, and even death metal. the set is a New York style, No Wave, psych, post-punk experience documentary synopsis: At the age of just 17, Martin Bisi was volunteering at CBGB and working with the band Material. A chance encounter with famed producer Brian Eno gave him the chance to start BC Studio - a small recording studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn where, for over 35 years, he has recorded some of the most influential music made in New York. After producing Eno and many avant garde and hip hop acts, Bisi, Bill Laswell and Material, struck gold in recording Herbie Hancock's Grammy winning hit, Rockit. This was the first mainstream, popular song to feature a DJ and a turntable, utilizing "scratching". Following that success, Bisi worked with many other influential musicians at BC Studio, including Sonic Youth, Swans, Afrika Bambaataa, the Violent Femmes, John Zorn and the Dresden Dolls. Despite BC Studio's location in a run down factory building near the polluted Gowanus Canal, the indie rock, experimental and hip hop musicians who recorded there swore by its grungy character and natural acoustics. However, the future of the recording studio is in question as it is being squeezed by the encroaching gentrification and rising prices of the Brooklyn neighborhood. A new, massive Whole Foods supermarket across the street is the latest addition to this once out-of-the-way area, that Bisi fears will increase property values to the point of pushing out long-time renters and artists like himself. The documentary includes interviews and footage of musicians who recorded there such as Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Michael Gira of Swans, Brian Viglione of the Dresden Dolls, Bob Bert, who played on Sonic Youth's Bad Moon Rising, Bill Laswell of Material, JG Thirlwell aka Foetus, Grand Mixer DXT, Jim Coleman of Cop Shoot Cop, Gordon Gano and Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes and Michael Holman of Gray (with Jean-Michel Basquiat).
