The balance between public safety and the presumption of innocence is always a complex issue. The recent case of Portuguese BLM, Odair Moniz murder in Lisbon, on the one hand, together with growing rate of robberies and other crime where police seems helpless, on the other one, rises questions again. November 19th we are going to argue on the statement:
📍Portuguese police needs less limitations in allowed scale of enforcement to improve public safety
On debate we play a game of a mock-up Parliament of Argulot where each of you becomes a member of a political party. We are a 2-party system here, with 2 parties opposing each other: the affirmative side is defending the statement while negative side is be arguing against it.
a fee for 1 session is 5 euro
Parties have 30 minutes to prepare and then we start the debate.
Debate Club aims to:
• develop logic, rhetoric and oracy skills
• improve the ability to prove your argument and critical thinking
• practice English
And who knows - maybe you will argue in a real Parliament one day!
We would encourage all speakers starting from Upper-intermediate (B2) level to join! Whether you are a Churchill or you have never argued in your life – we are happy to have all of you and we’ll do our best to make sure you feel neither bored nor cognitively overwhelmed!
