ORBIS - Cooperação e Desenvolvimento is a Portuguese NGO for development. They have multiple cooperation for development projects in Portuguese-speaking countries, focusing mostly on access to education. They also have their own fair trade project and, in Portugal, they are active in the areas of Human Rights promotion and education for sustainable development. At the moment, they are focusing their fundraising efforts towards the project "O Sonho Nasce Aqui"!. They are partnering with an Angolan NGO - Okulongisa - to build a school in Bairro Coragem. This school will host about 350 children from the neighborhood who, otherwise, have to walk 14 km to the nearest school. Building this school will drastically reduce school drop-out rates and prevent children from being exposed to the dangers and exhaustion of the current commute. It is also a chance for these children to have access to better opportunities in the future and empower the community. The budget is €22.000 (22 K), including three classrooms, bathrooms, and a small room with a kitchenette for one teacher (who will probably not be from Bairro Coragem). All licensing, concession of terrain, contractors, and a permanent teacher are assured; we "only" need to raise the money and start the construction work.
