If you ask me, and I have already been asked, what these images are about, I wouldn’t be able to answer. They are not, like previous works of mine, about the Shoah or about the impossibility of photographing a window or a bowl, nor about the time that flows or the memories of tomorrow. These photographs are not variations on the same subject. They do not show a city or a group of people, in fact, there is no architecture nor faces in these photographs, they are images of a world neither before nor after human presence, but of a world despite people. They should not even be seen, perhaps, as a group of work, as a series, but rather as works per se, mirrors that reflect what I thought, images that live from and for themselves, breathe on themselves, open themselves to the gaze that wants to see them and, on the other hand, close themselves off to contemptuous gazes. (PT) Este trabalho não é sobre nada. Se me perguntarem, e já me perguntaram, sobre do que tratam estas imagens, eu não saberia responder. Não são, como trabalhos anteriores meus, sobre a Shoah ou sobre a impossibilidade de fotografar uma janela ou uma taça, nem sobre o tempo que flui ou as memórias do amanhã. Estas fotografias não são variações sobre uma mesma pauta. Não mostram uma cidade ou um grupo de pessoas, aliás, não há rostos nem arquitetura nestas fotografias, são imagens de um mundo, não anterior nem posterior à presença humana, mas de um mundo apesar das pessoas. Nem devem sequer ser vistas, talvez, como um núcleo de trabalho, como uma série, mas, antes, como obras per se, espelhos que reflectem o que pensei, imagens que vivem de si próprias e para si próprias, respiram sobre si mesmas, abrem-se ao olhar que as quer ver e fecham-se, por oposição, aos olhares desdenhosos. E não requerem leituras e releitura através de outras imagens que porventura as rodeiem neste momento. Um mais um continua aqui a ser um. (...) Daniel Blaufuks
