A crise climática já é uma realidade! Em Portugal, assim como no resto no mundo, muitas vezes são as comunidades mais exploradas e menos responsáveis, também as que mais sofrem o impactos desta crise. No Litoral Alentejano são várias as frentes de ataque do capitalismo, aos interesses e direitos dos trabalhadores, comunidades e recursos naturais. Por isso, o movimento pela Justiça Climática vai montar as suas tendas, em Melides, este Verão. De 6 a 10 de Julho estaremos no Litoral Alentejano num acampamento de ação, criatividade, partilha, e resistência.
Este será um acampamento de ação, para 1.5º. Vamos preparar e executar ações diretas, nas quais juntas e com força e criatividade vamos exigir que os interesses das pessoas e do planeta sejam postos à frente dos do lucro. Voltaremos à refinaria de Sines, em grande, e exigir uma transição Justa para os seus trabalhadores.
Para além disso, poderás contar com momentos de testemunho, debate, formação, convívio e partilha. Neste acampamento vamos coletivamente pensar e definir os próximos passos para o movimento pela justiça climática em Portugal, e sair mais fortes, motivadas e capacitadas.

Porquê 1.5?
Vivemos na década decisiva para agir e impedir que a temperatura média do planeta ultrapasse os 1.5ºC de aquecimento. Cumprir este objectivo significa conter o degelo no Ártico e ondas de calor mortais, significa evitar a extinção em massa de espécies animais e vegetais, significa salvar milhões de vidas.
O que é que capitalismo tem a ver com isto?
Nos últimos anos tivemos grandes avanços científicos na área das energias renováveis, mas estas estão a ser somadas às energias fósseis, não a substituí-las. Aquilo que estamos a observar não é uma transição energética, é uma expansão energética, e a realidade é que a concentração de gases com efeito de estufa na atmosfera continua a aumentar de ano para ano.
A resposta das Instituições face à crise climática, social e ecológica que vivemos, passa por repetir as mesmas lógicas de injustiça, desigualdade, discriminação e exploração capitalista que nos trouxeram a este cenário de crise. Este modelo económico não tem nem capacidade nem intenção em levar a cabo uma transição justa que responda às necessidades reais das pessoas.
Porquê no litoral alentejano?
O litoral alentejano é um dos expoentes máximos do capitalismo fóssil em Portugal.
Isto reflete-se nas monoculturas de alimentos e de painéis solares, na má gestão da água e dos solos, no trabalho precário nas estufas, na falta de transportes públicos, no encerramento de infraestruturas sem qualquer plano de transição justa para as trabalhadoras e comunidades locais, nos resorts de luxo e campos de golf que está previsto serem construídos, e no aumento da capacidade do Porto de Sines que importa gás fóssil e transporta animais vivos por milhares de quilómetros. A tudo isto ainda se soma o facto de a infraestrutura nacional com maior emissão de gases com efeito de estufa, a refinaria da GALP, estar em Sines.

Durante o acampamento vamos ouvir testemunhos dos impactos do capitalismo no litoral alentejano. Vem conhecer melhor, com a própria população local, a realidade de quem sofre os impactos diretos do capitalismo no litoral alentejano, bem como participar em ações diretas onde de forma criativa, disruptiva e performativa, vamos agir perante as problemáticas prementes na região. Para além disso, não vais querer perder os momentos de convívio, partilha e debate, e a construção dos próximos passos para o movimento pela Justiça Climática em Portugal.

About the camp 1.5:
The climate crisis is already a reality! In Portugal, as in the rest of the world, it is often the most exploited and least responsible communities that suffer the impact of this crisis. In the Alentejo’s coastline, the interests and rights of workers, communities, and natural resources are attacked by capitalism in different ways. Therefore, the movement for Climate Justice will set up its tents in Melides this summer. From 6-10 July, we will be on the Alentejo coast in a camp of action, creativity, sharing, and resistance.
This will be an action camp, for the 1.5ºC. We will prepare and execute direct actions, in which together and with strength and creativity we will demand that the interests of people and the planet are put before those of profit. We will return to the Sines refinery, in greatness, and demand a fair transition for its workers.
In addition, you can count on moments of testimony, debate, training, conviviality, and sharing. In this camp, we will collectively think and define the next steps for the movement for climate justice in Portugal, and come out stronger, motivated, and empowered. The 1.5 camp will mark the movement for climate justice in Portugal, and in the Alentejo Coast, you can't miss it!
Why 1.5?
We live in the decisive decade to act and prevent the planet's average temperature from exceeding 1.5ºC of warming. Meeting this objective means preventing the melting of the Arctic ice and deadly heat waves, it means preventing the mass extinction of animal and plant species, it means saving millions of lives.
What does capitalism have to do with this?
In recent years we have had major scientific breakthroughs in the area of renewable energies, but these are being added to fossil energies, not replacing them. What we are seeing is not an energy transition, it is an energy expansion, and the reality is that the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere continues to increase year by year.
The response of the institutions to the climate, social and ecological crisis we are experiencing is to repeat the same logic of injustice, inequality, discrimination, and capitalist exploitation that brought us to this crisis. This economic model has neither the capacity nor the intention to carry out a fair transition that responds to people's real needs.
Why in the Alentejo coast?
The Alentejo coast is one of the leading exponents of fossil capitalism in Portugal.
This is reflected in the monocultures of food and solar panels, the poor management of water and soil, the precarious work conditions in greenhouses, the lack of public transport, the closure of infrastructure without any fair transition plan for workers and local communities, the luxury resorts and golf courses that are planned to be built, and the increased capacity of the Port of Sines which imports fossil gas and transports live animals for thousands of kilometres. Added to all this is the fact that the national infrastructure with the highest greenhouse gas emissions, the GALP refinery, is in Sines.
Why should you join?
During the camp we will hear testimonies of the impacts of capitalism on the Alentejo’s coastline. Come and get to know better, with the local population, the reality of those who suffer the direct impacts of capitalism on the Alentejo’s coastline. Furthermore, come to participate in direct actions where, in a creative, disruptive and performative way, we will act on the pressing problems in the region.
