Na fronteira entre o jazz e a improvisação livre de orientação reducionista, este DDK Trio de invulgar instrumentação (trompete, piano e acordeão) reúne alguns dos mais consolidados nomes desta coisa tão particular e indefinível como seja a 'música livre' de raiz europeia. À cabeça, o trompetista alemão Axel Dörner, músico brilhante e figura maior do jazz do continente, co-laborador de gente como Alexander von Schlippenbach, Mats Gustaffson, Barry Guy ou Otomo Yoshihide, tão à vontade tocando no limiar do silêncio como atirando-se ao bebop ou a temas de Thelonious Monk; no piano, o suíço Jacques Demierre, improvisador e compositor com rol igualmente entusiasmante de colaborações com nomes maiores mundiais (incluindo o nosso Carlos 'Zíngaro') e, finalmente, qual wild-card, o também helvético Jonas Kocher, benjamin do trio, acompanhado do acordeão, um instrumento que, continuando pouco habitual, lentamente se vai infiltrando nestes mundos estéticos e criando raízes sonoras particulares.

Threading the line between jazz and reductionist-oriented free improvisation, this DDK Trio, using an unusual choice of instruments (trumpet, piano and accordion), brings together some of the best established names in the ever so specific and hard to define field of ‘free music’ with European roots. At the helm is German trumpeter Axel Dörner, a brilliant musician and one of the main figures in European jazz, who has worked with people like Alexander von Schlippenbach, Mats Gustaffson, Barry Guy ou Otomo Yoshihide, as comfortable with playing on the edge of silence as with bebop or music by Thelonious Monk; at the piano, Swiss improviser and composer Jacques Demierre, with an equally impressive list of collaborations with major artists throughout the world (including our own Carlos ‘Zíngaro’) and, finally, in wild-card fashion, Swiss accordion player Jonas Kocher, the youngest of the three, wielding an instrument which, while remaining relatively uncommon, slowly conquers its space in these aesthetic realms and lays down its particular sonic roots.
