AD, Audio-description Workshop

AD
Audio-description, or how can we verbalize the visual world for the blind and visually impaired community?

Have you ever thought about how do blind people watch movies, theater plays or football games? Whether they go to a museum? Can a blind person enjoy the panorama of a UNESCO site? If the answer is yes, how on Earth can they get the same experience as
others with vision do…?
Let’s find out in a 120 minutes long, interactive and playful entry free workshop and experiment together with AD!

What is AD?

AD (short for audio-description) is a service - and I truly believe that is also an art form - that is used to describe key elements of anything that contains visuality in situations, where without the perceived information you’d lose the track of understanding or purely just the joy of that specific thing.
AD is the transformation of anything we can see into words. Which sounds in a way easy.

But is it really…?
In technical terms AD (or visual description) is a form of narration used to provide information surrounding key visual elements most often in a media work (such as a film or television program, or theatrical performance) for the benefit of blind and visually impaired consumers.
If you prefer a short teaser, here you can find an audio-described bit.

About the Facilitator

My name is Ágnes Margit Pethes, I’m a professional audio-describer for 9 years, founder of ADD On, a foundation providing accessibility focusing mainly on the blind and visually impaired community.
I’m working mostly with films, tv series and theater performances. I provide AD in Hungarian, my mother tongue, but I’d be happy to share a bit of knowledge about the fascinating and important world of this segment of accessibility.
