Workshop Prático para fazer uma Escultura Básica em Madeira com CLAIRE DE SANTA COLOMA Durante uma semana, um grupo de participantes, de qualquer sexo, idade e/ou profissão, trabalharão com o objectivo de fazer uma escultura básica em madeira. A cada participante será entregue um tronco, previamente recolhido nos arredores do Moinho da Fonte Santa, com uma goiva e uma maça, as ferramentas essenciais para talhar. Cada um poderá eleger o tronco que mais lhe aprouver. O objectivo será transformar esse tronco numa escultura, mediante a técnica da talha directa. Serão ensinados os gestos básicos necessários para poder usar as ferramentas e conseguir talhar a madeira., porém o foco incide sobre entender o que significa talhar a madeira. O desafio será criar uma forma determinada a partir de um tronco (que, por sua vez, já contém uma forma especifica) num determinado período de tempo (5 dias de trabalho intensivo). O participante terá então que assimilar que o fazer de uma escultura talhada à mão requer sobretudo tempo e labor. Este workshop está dirigido aos interessados em conhecer e apreender o material dado (a madeira) e aos preocupados com a economia de meios como parte integrante do processo de trabalho. Esta proposta vem no seguimento do trabalho desenvolvido pela artista Claire de Santa Coloma, apresentado recentemente na Galeria 3+1 em Lisboa, na exposição Guia prático para fazer uma escultura básica em madeira. Practical Workshop for Making a Basic Wood Sculpture with CLAIRE DE SANTA COLOMA For a week, a group of adults of either gender, age and/or profession, will work with the goal of making a basic wood sculpture. Each participant will be given a log that has been previously collected around the premises of Moinho da Fonte Santa and a gouge and a mallet, the essential tools for carving. The choice of the trunk is up to each person. The aim is to transform the trunk into a sculpture, using the technique of direct carving. The basic movements that are required to use the tools and start carving wood will be taught, but the focus lays on understanding what carving of wood means. The challenge will be to create a particular shape from a trunk (which, by itself, already has a specific form) in a given time (5 days of intensive work). The apprentice will then have to assimilate the notion that making a sculpture carved by hand requires, above all, time and labour. This workshop is meant for people interested in acquiring the knowledge of a given material (wood), with the underlying concern in an "economy of means" as an important part of the creative process.
