Na 2ª sessão Death and Documentary viajamos até aos filmes produzidos nos EUA para refletirmos sobre o conceito de morte, de forma abrangente. Memórias individuais e de família, arquivos, o processo de luto… são alguns dos temas escolhidos pelos estudantes da Universidade do Texas em Austin para retratar este conceito tão universal e simultaneamente íntimo e pessoal.
O curso “Death and Documentary”, com uma 1ª edição em parceria entre a Universidade do Texas em Austin e a ESMAD, surge com o propósito de olhar a morte a partir de uma série de abordagens alternativas e de como estas podem ser representadas no filme documentário, a partir de um amplo leque de interpretações. O foco centra-se na morte no sentido amplo, como uma ideia transformadora, fonte de poder espiritual e estético, assunto de fascínio narrativo e matéria-prima para a criação documental.

For the 2nd Death and Documentary screening we travel to the films produced in the USA to reflect upon the concept of death, in a comprehensive approach. Individual and family memories, archives, the grieving process ... are some of the topics chosen by the students from the University of Texas at Austin to portray this concept so universal as intimate and personal.
The “Death and Documentary” class, with a 1st edition in partnership between the University of Texas at Austin and ESMAD, aims to look at death from a series of alternative approaches and how they can be represented in documentary film, with a wide range of interpretations. The focus is on death in the broad sense, as a transformative idea, a source of spiritual and aesthetic power, a subject of narrative fascination and raw material for documentary creativity.
