Na 14ª edição do LEFFEST, homenageamos o jovem artista e cineasta francês Clément Cogitore, mestre das artes visuais, através da exibição das suas mais curiosas obras cinematográficas. Entre ficção, documentário, projecção experimental e dança no ecrã, as curtas e longas-metragens seleccionadas oferecem um programa diversificado, inspirador e multidisciplinar. Dominando a união entre filme, fotografia e vídeo experimental, Clément Cogitore explora o conceito de memória colectiva, de rituais, do retrato do sagrado. Enquanto lugares de intersecção entre o cinema e a arte contemporânea, as suas obras questionam o modo como convivemos com as nossas próprias imagens e representações. Entre outras distinções, Cogitore viu a sua primeira longa-metragem NI LE CIEL NI LA TERRE (2015) seleccionada para a Semana da Crítica em Cannes, recebeu o prestigioso Prémio Marcel Duchamp em 2018 e teve o seu trabalho exibido em espaços como o Centre Pompidou em Paris, o Institute of Contemporary Arts em Londres, a Haus der Kulturen der Welt em Berlim e o MoMA em Nova-Iorque. ——————————————————————————————— In the 14th edition of LEFFEST, we celebrate and pay tribute to the young artist and French filmmaker Clément Cogitore, master of the visual arts, through the exhibition of his most curious cinematographic work. Between fiction, documentary, experimental projections and on-screen dancing, the short and feature films selected offer a diverse, inspiring and multidisciplinary programme. By dominating the fusion of film, photography and experimental video-art, Clément Cogitore explores the concept of collective memory, of ritual practices, of the portrayal of the sacred. As a playground for the intersection of cinematic expression with forms of contemporary art, his work questions our relationship with our own images and representations. Among numerous distinctions, Cogitore saw his first feature film NEITHER HEAVEN NOR EARTH (2015) selected at the International Critics' Week in Cannes, received the prestigious Marcel Duchamp award in 2018 and has had his work exhibited in venues such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin and MoMA in New York. PROGRAMA / PROGRAMME 18 de Novembro - 13:00h // Cinema Medeia Nimas, Lisboa - Les Indes Galantes / The Amorous Indies (2018) // 6’ Vencedor do Prémio Unifrance para Curta-Metragem em Cannes, Cogitore adapta aqui um ballet já previamente adaptado, desta vez por um grupo de dançarinos Krump, numa encarnação das tensões violentas do corpo físico, social e político. Winner of the Unifrance Prize for Short Film in Cannes, Cogitore adapts here a previously adapted ballet, this time through a group of Krump dancers, in an embodiment of the violent tensions of the physical, social and political body. - Un Archipel / An Archipelago (2011) // 11’ Esta curta aventura-se na intersecção entre o filme mudo, o cinema experimental e a fórmula narrativa de Hollywood, para relatar a desastrosa missão do submarino de propulsão nuclear H.M.S Astute. This short ventures into the crossroads of silent film, experimental cinema and Hollywood storytelling to tell the disastrous mission of the nuclear-powered submarine H.M.S Astute. - Bielutine (2011) // 36’ Bileutine explora um apartamento em Moscovo, no qual Ely e Nina guardam uma das mais importantes e misteriosas colecções de arte renascentista na Rússia. Bielutine explores a Moscow apartment, where Ely and Nina jealously guard one of the most significant and mysterious Renaissance art collections in Russia. - Travel(ing) (2005) // 3’ Filmada em 16 mm, Travel(ing) confronta a realidade de uma experiência com a sua representação cinematográfica. Shot on 16 mm film, Travel(ing) confronts the reality of an experience with its cinematographic representation. - The Evil Eye (2018) // 15’ Guiado pelo recorrente sentido ritualístico de Cogitore, The Evil Eye, vencedor do Prémio Marcel Duchamp, parte de imagens promocionais e transforma-as num cenário ambivalente. Guided by Cogitore’s recurring sense of ritual, The Evil Eye, winner of the Marcel Duchamp Award, borrows promotional stock images and transforms them through an ambivalent staging. - L’Intervalle de Résonance / The Resonant Interval (2016) // 24’ Uma instalações de vídeo com imagens que se fundem no espaço e dois fenómenos cujas origens estão por explicar: os sons emitidos pela aurora boreal no Norte da Europa e a aparição de um misterioso objecto luminoso no Alasca. A video installation with images that melt into space and two unexplained phenomena with physical origins: the sounds emitted by the Northern Lights and the appearance of a mysterious luminous object in Alaska. 20 de Novembro - 19:30h // Cinema Medeia Nimas, Lisboa Seguido de conversa com / followed by a talk with Clément Cogitore & Paulo Branco - Ni Le Ciel Ni La Terre / The Wakhan Front (2015) // 100’ Exibido em Cannes enquanto estreia de Cogitore nas longas-metragens, este thriller desafia a racionalidade dos mecanismos de controlo materiais através da repentina desmaterialização da autoridade.
