A primeira exposição antológica de Gabriela Albergaria acompanha de perto os vários momentos do seu percurso e dá a conhecer o balanço da sua atividade nos últimos 15 anos. Reunindo trabalhos produzidos na Alemanha, na Colômbia, no Brasil, no Reino Unido e na Bélgica, esta é a oportunidade de ver ou rever peças fundamentais no percurso da artista, como é o caso da instalação que realizou no CCB, em 2005 — uma enorme árvore que ostentava um processo violento de enxertia —, mas também de conhecer um conjunto de obras que têm aqui a sua primeira apresentação pública.

As relações de aculturação da paisagem e da natureza que se foram instituindo por via dos processos migratórios e da globalização têm estado no centro da atenção de Gabriela Albergaria desde a década de 1990. Através das suas esculturas, instalações, fotografias ou desenhos, a artista dá corpo a uma reflexão sistemática sobre questões como a influência da ação humana nos processos de transformação da paisagem, a modificação dos ecossistemas através da importação de espécies vegetais não autóctones ou a história da domesticação da natureza presente na construção dos jardins botânicos no século XVIII.

No contexto do trabalho de Gabriela Albergaria, as representações são sempre orientadas por um olhar que pretende revelar os processos históricos e percetivos implicados na apropriação e manipulação que temos vindo a fazer do mundo vegetal ao longo dos séculos. Esta exposição está inserida no programa Lisboa Capital Verde.

Since the 1990s, the work of the artist Gabriela Albergaria (Vale de Cambra, 1965) has focused on understanding the acculturation of the landscape and nature through the migratory processes and globalisation that began in the fifteenth century. In the multiple typologies that she uses (sculpture, installation, works conceived for the public space, drawing and photography), the recording of
the transformations of the landscape through human activity, the modification of ecosystems through the importation of plant species
and the history of the domestication of nature, which lay behind the botanical gardens constructed in the eighteenth century, she has
been establishing a coherent and systematic body of work.

This exhibition maps the different moments of her journey, which, besides existing works, includes the conception of new projects, offering us an overview of her activity in the last 15 years. The starting point is the installation that the artist exhibited at the CCB, in 2005 (an enormous tree displaying a violent grafting process), passing through the works that she has produced in Germany, Colômbia, Brazil and the United Kingdom, where she now resides.
