social isolation, environmental uncertainty and a culture that has removed itself so far from the natural world. have we been reduced to nothing but isolated, productive and consuming units? through surreal and poetic imagery, Swim Hunt Run symbolically explores humanity framed by their connection and disconnection to the natural world. it is a lyrical and poetic reflection on a life cycle as we experience it, in all its beauty, contradictions and violence.
set within the powerful and striking backdrop of the state of alaska, we focus on a collection of characters, landscapes and animals. none can survive without the other.
all the animals in this film are contained by our human control. whether it be a polar bear majestically enclosed in a transparent cage, a fish pulled from the deep sea, or huskies that are domesticated, they are framed in a way that implies their sense of wildness has been lost.
simultaneously, the humans which we see are caged within their isolation. steam rooms, restaurants, boats, houses and most importantly within themselves. these scenarios subtly comment on how we get trapped in patterns of our own doing, thus creating a repetitive loop in which true connection becomes impossible.
