Zaratan AIR apresenta: ARTISTS TALK | Hannah Witner + Steven Sumner 27 de Agosto às 18h | Entrada livre “Artist Talks” é um ciclo de conversas organizado pela Zaratan que oferece a oportunidade de encontrar os artistas internacionais em residência e de conhecer o seu processo criativo. No dia 27 de Agosto, os artistas Hannah Witner (US) e Steven Sumner (UK/FR) introduzem as suas práticas artísticas e o imaginário das peças em exposição no espaço da galeria. >>> STEVEN SUMNER é um artista britânico que vive e trabalha no sul da França. Obteve uma licenciatura cum laude em Arte Contemporânea na Huddersfield University (Reino Unido) em 2014. Antes de se assumir como artista, trabalhou durante 37 anos no desenvolvimento de sistemas de automação para a indústria. Esta vasta experiência na engenharia influencia a sua prática artística de uma forma muito imprevisível. Steven Sumner aborda os media artísticos livremente, mas com pragmatismo, partindo de qualquer material que considere necessário para representar as suas investigações: de lasers e sistemas de computador, até óleo sobre tela e esculturas em barro. O seu trabalho artístico reflete sobre a fenomenologia, a partir de fundamentos da energia e das moléculas (física das partículas), e sobre a forma como a sua existência e a sua consciência possibilitam a investigação artística e científica. HANNAH WITNER é uma artista visual e designer, vive e trabalha em New York. Originária de Charlotte, NC, recebeu um BFA em Design Integrado da Parsons School for Design em 2018. O seu trabalho abrange desde pinturas a óleo coloridas, surrealistas e psicológicas, até desenhos extravagantes e design experimental. Hannah é uma artista multidisciplinar: no cerne de seu trabalho está a paixão por descobrir o potencial oculto dos materiais, dos processos psicológicos e da condição humana, que investiga com um espírito curiosio e experimental. O seu trabalho é repleto de irreverência figurativa, biomorfismo, representações de dilemas existenciais para mensurar a condição humana contemporânea, revelando aspectos da individualidad através de uma perspetiva feminina, camadas da psique e interações interpessoais. Hannah é representada pela PIAPH Gallery em Nova York. Expôs em Nova York, bem como em coleções particulares e comissões. Foi artista residente no The Bowery Collective e C-3 Lab e, em 2020, participará de residências de mérito no Vermont Studio Center, NES Artist Residency e D'Clinic Studios. On August 27, at 6PM, Hannah Witner(US) and Steven Sumner (UK/FR) will introduce briefly their artistic practices and will give us an insight into the artworks on display in the gallery space. >>>STEVEN SUMNER is a british artist, living and working in the South of France. He obtained a Honours Degree in Contemporary Art at the Huddersfield University (UK) in 2014. Previous to assume himself as an art creator, he has been working during 37 years in the development of automation systems for industry. This extend experience in engeneering influences his artistic practice in a very unpredictable way. He approches the artistic media freely but wth pragmatism, starting from whatever material he feels necessary to engage with to represent his investigations: from lasers and computer systems to oil on canvas and clay sculptural works. His artwork reflects on existence and how, from energy and molecular fundamentals (particle physics), life and consciousness affords artistic and scientific enquiry. >>> HANNAH WITNER is an interdisciplinary designer & visual artist based in NYC. She is originally from Charlotte, NC, and she earned a BFA in Integrated Design from Parsons School for Design in 2018.Her work spans from colorful, surrealist, and psychological oil paintings, whimsical drawings, and experimental design. Hannah is a multidisciplinary artist: at the heart of her work lies a passion for uncovering the hidden potential of materials, psychological processes, and the human condition, which she undertakes in a spirit of curiosity and experimentation. Her artwork is filled with figurative irreverence, biomorphism, tableaus of existential dilemmas as a measure of the contemporary human condition, revealing aspects of the self through the perspective of femininity, layers of the psyche, and interpersonal interactions. Hannah is represented by PIAPH Gallery in New York City. She has exhibited across NYC, as well as private collections and commissions. She has been a studio resident at The Bowery Collective and C-3 Lab, and in 2020 will participate in merit residencies at the Vermont Studio Center,NES Artist Residency, and D'Clinic Studios.
