As três fotografias expostas na Mupi Gallery são retratos de Nir Vidan, fotos retiradas de três vídeos-loop exibidos em “Fauteuils, un spectacle-exposition”, uma peça coreográfica com três cadeiras e três artistas, que tanto é uma exposição como uma performance. Este projeto está fortemente conectado à peça para quatro membros que o artista desenvolveu com Eva Klimackova e que apresenta no Vivarium Festival 2020 como “Ouvrir le Temps”.

Após estudos de filosofia na École Normale Supérieure (Paris) e City College (Nova York), Laurent Goldring voltou-se para o trabalho artístico cruzando os campos das artes visuais, vídeo, fotografia e cinema.
O seu trabalho ganhou interesse imediato. Uma exposição pessoal no Pompidou, em 2002, com curadoria de Christine Van Assche, um retrato de Jacqueline Caux seguido de dois artigos de Laurence Louppe e Laurent Goumarre no Artpress; uma entrevista com Cyril Beghin e Stéphane Delorme e uma peça de Françoise Parfait adicionando ao seu crescente reconhecimento.
Goldring foi rapidamente apresentado em grandes eventos: Bienal de Veneza (Der Bau e Saltos Coletivos, 2016), Garage, Moscou (Collective Jumps, 2016), Le Bal (Cesser d'etre un, 2016), Jeu de Paume (Broken Loops, 2014), MOMA PS1 (La Rencontre, 2014), Fundação Gulbenkian (Sculpture mobile #4, 2002), Musée National d’Art Moderne (Expo N°26, 2002). Hoje Laurent Goldring aparece em coleções de prestígio, incluindo o Museu Nacional d'Art Moderne (Sans titre adquirido em 1989, Petite chronique de l'image (1995/2002) adquirida em 2003, 24 imagens na segunda aquisição em 2013). As suas imagens do mundo da dança influenciaram muitos coreógrafos. Goldring esteve diretamente envolvido com a criação de shows de Xavier Le Roy, Blut and Boredom, Ectoderme e Self-Unfinished (1996-1998), e por Maria-Donata d´Urso, Pezzo 0 (uno and due) (2002). Aí então co-assinou o trabalho com Benoit Lachambre, Saskia Holbling e Louise Lecavalier, as peças the rrr… (reading readings reading) (2001), Is you me (2008) e Squatting Project (2012-2016). Com Germana Civera, criou Figures (2008), com Isabelle Schad, Unturtled (2009/2012), Der Bau (2013) e Collective Jumps (2014), e com Eva Klimackova, Ouvrir le temps (2014). Após exposições em Le Bal (Paris) e Garage (Moscou), em 2017, o Palais de Tokyo exibiu uma monumental instalação de vídeos loops do seu corpo.

The three photographs shown at Mupi Gallery are portraits of Nir Vidan, video-stills taken from three loops shown in “Fauteuils, un spectacle-exposition”, a choreographic piece with three chairs and three artists, which is as much as an exhibition as it is a performance. This project is strongly connected to the four-member play that the artist developed with Eva Klimackova and which he presents at Vivarium Festival 2020 as “Ouvrir le Temps”.

Following philosophy studies at the École Normale Supérieure (Paris) and City College (New York), he turned to artistic work intersecting the fields of visual arts, video, photography and cinema. His work garnered immediate interest. A personal exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in 2002 curated by Christine Van Assche, a portrait by Jacqueline Caux followed by two articles by Laurence Louppe and Laurent Goumarre in Artpress; an interview with Cyril Beghin and Stéphane Delorme and a piece by Françoise Parfait added to growing recognition.

Today Laurent Goldring features in prestigious collections including the Musée National d’Art Moderne (Sans titre acquired in 1989, Petite chronique de l’image (1995/2002) acquired in 2003, 24 images seconde acquired in 2013). His images from the world of dance have influenced many choreographers. He was directly involved with the creation of shows by Xavier Le Roy, Blut and Boredom, Ectoderme and Self-Unfinished (1996-1998), and by Maria-Donata d’Urso, Pezzo 0 (uno and due) (2002).
