Saraswathy is a dancer from the tradition of Mohiniyattom, one of the Indian Classical Dance styles, originary from the state of Kerala (South India). A student of the Kalamandalam style,
she is representing 'Mohini Studio' with a long tradition and the aim of preserving this dance style.

WORKSHOP
'Mohiniyattom, the Lasya Dance'
- 14th & 15th March 2020, 4.00 - 6.00pm
- Attendants: beginners, 3-15 people
- Price: 60€

In this introduction to Mohiniyattom we will be addressing hand gestures, eye movements, postures and basic steps unique to Mohiniyattom. An extra emphasis will be given on layam concepts, as the music in Mohiniyattom uses rhythms that are different from those used in other Indian classical dance forms.

'Mohanam, the beauty of Dance'

In 'Mohanam, the beauty of dance', the rich form Mohiniyattom is explored through nritta (pure dance) and abhinaya (narrative). 
Watch a representation of diverse feelings in physical movements, with the aid of music and rhythm unique to this dance style. 

                                            

About Saraswathy
Saraswathy  began her journey in dance at the age of 4. Having trained in both Bharatanatyam (Thanjavur bani) and then in Mohiniyattom since age 12,  she has been able to stay true to both the art forms thanks to her tutelage under renowned gurus in both traditions. It was Smt. Kalamandalam Vimala Menon who initiated her into Mohiniyattom. In the sunny state of California, Saraswathy and her friends,  a team of passionate mohiniyattom dancers, have taken it as their mission to create more awareness and promote this graceful dance, through their organization Mohini Studio. Saraswathy has performed extensively in India and USA.
