A cinematic adaptation of a psychological horror film reminiscent of Hitchcock's slapstick, congenially captures the morbid atmosphere and an unbelievable world of panoptical characters of an outstanding masterpiece by Ladislav Fuks (published in 1967). Mr. Kopfrkingl became the life role of Rudolf Hrušínský and the tragicomedy The Cremator, one of the most important films by Juraj Herz, who fully exercised his sense of bizarre, perversion and fantasy. Although the film was foreclosed by the normalizers of Czech film and could not appear in cinemas or television for many years, it is hardly possible to ignore this title in the list of the most valuable Czech films. The author of the original novel Ladislav Fuks co-wrote the script with Stanislav Milota, the cinematographer was Vlasta Chramostová, Jana Stehnová, Ilja Prachař, Jiří Lír, Míla Myslíková, Vladimír Menšík. In 1969, Herz was awarded the FITES Trilobite Award for directing and Milota for the film. At the Czech and Slovak Film Festival in Sorrento he received the award Silver Siren.(official reseller text).
