Maia Horta (Timor, 1974) lives and works in Lisbon. She completed her Master's Degree in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon in 2010. She has a degree in Fine Arts and Comparative Literature from the University of Maryland, USA, where she studied from 1993-1997.   She studied abroad  with a DAAD scholarship in Kassel, Germany for one year and spend one year studying in Berlin at the Weissensee Kunsthochschule with Prof. Wolfgang Peuker.  Since her masters she has exhibited regularly in group shows and solo exhibitions, the most relevant ones being: Artlovers solo exhibition at Soapbox Gallery in New York, Poshlust at Around the Corner and Going Bananas at Arte Graça in Lisbon. Her work is conceptual, critical, and at times comical or provocative in its appropriations of art history.
