William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564 and died there in
1613, but he spent most of his working life in London.

He wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets.
Of all Shakespeare’s plays, ‘Macbeth’ is the one most obsessively concerned with evil. Shakespeare found the story of Macbeth in Holinshed’s Chronicles (1587), the source of most of his history plays. Although it is based on legend, certain historical facts about Macbeth occurred in the mid-11th century.
‘Macbeth’ is supposed to have been written in 1606 and performed at Hampton Court before James I, who had succeeded Elisabeth I in 1603.
If Shakespeare’s company followed its normal practice, Macbeth would also have been played soon afterwards at the Globe Theatre, London.

‘Round about the cauldron go;
In the poisoned entrails throw.
Murder, greed and madness brew
In this hell-broth comedy stew.’

This is a comedy based on the play ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’ by William Shakespeare. It is a story about a husband and wife who will stop at nothing to achieve their desires. Intrigued by a series of predictions made by three witches and persuaded by his ruthless and ambitious wife, Macbeth sets out on a journey of butchery and madness to gain and keep the throne of Scotland.
