“Artist Talks” é um ciclo de conversas organizado pela Zaratan que oferece a oportunidade de encontrar os artistas internacionais em residência e de conhecer o seu processo criativo. 
No dia 19 de Outubro, pelas 18h00, as artistas Katharina Karrenberg (DE) e Julia Gallo (BR) introduzem brevemente a sua prática artística e as suas temáticas de pesquisa.

>>> KATHARINA KARRENBERG é uma artista visual Alemã com mais de 30 anos de carreira. Através da sua prática artística questiona a forma como as imagens se transformam quando entram em contacto com outras imagens, vindas de épocas e de campos epistemológicos diferentes, recorrendo frequentemente a pesquisa em arquivos históricos e outras bases de dados.
Nos últimos anos tem desenvolvido uma técnica fotográfica chamada “reflectografia” que lhe permite combinar imagens e técnicas heterogéneas por camadas utilizando o ecrã do computador.
Actualmente em residência na Zaratan, está a pesquisar os sistemas de linhas heterogéneos e variados que são usados ​​nas cartas marítimas dos séculos XV e XVI - especialmente em Portugal. Os mapas marítimos da época - chamados de cartas portulanas - não eram apenas utilizados como linhas de navegação, mas tinham muitas formas e funções diferentes ligadas a sistemas matemáticos, monstros marinhos, cabeças de vento, fantasias de corrida de ouro  e outros esoterismos. Através desta pesquisa a artista tenciona explorar quais linhas de conexão podem ser estabelecidas entre as cartas portulanas, as imagens do colonialismo africano dos séculos XIX e XX e os dramas actuais do Mediterrâneo. Esse projecto actual, intitulado GHOSTS IN THE ARCHIVE, é a quarta parte de uma série de documentários intitulada An · Archive. Katharina Karrenberg estudou Comunicação Visual (Mainz), Sociologia e Psicologia (Frankfurt / Berlim). Lecionou em várias universidades alemãs (UdK - Berlim, MUTHESIUS Hochschule- Kiel, HFBK - Nürnberg, Universidade Carl Von Ossietzky - Oldenburg) e apresentou palestras / performances em: Universidade de Loughborough (UK), Universidade de Munique (DE), Universidade of The Arts Berlin (DE), Galeria do Estado, Stuttgart (DE) etc. Apresentou várias exposições individuais e colectivas em instituições quais: Goethe Institute New York 1991 (US), PS I Institute New York 1991 (EUA) Museu Sprengel Hannover 1997 (DE), Gropius Bau Berlim 2003 (DE), Villa Romana, Florença 2008, Galeria Niblock, Gent 2011 (NL), Galeria Czapski, Poznan 2014 (PL), Kunstpalast Erlangen 2016 (DE), Cúpula de Berlim 2017 (DE), Kunstquartier Bethanien, Berlim 2017 (DE), Kunsthalle Bern 2018 (CH), Kunsthalle Buchen 2018 (DE).

>>> JULIA GALLO vive e trabalha em São Paulo. Licenciada em Artes Plásticas pela FAAP, participou de 2015 a 2018 do Grupo de investigações e práticas em pintura sob orientação dos artistas Regina Parra e Rodolpho Parigi, além Grupo de Acompanhamento de Projeto, ministrado pelo artista Thiago Honório e pela curadora Ana Paula Cohen, em 2019. 
Desenho, pintura e animação são os principais instrumentos poéticos que a artista utiliza para trazer questões ligadas a corpo e movimento. A partir de um universo ficcional, a sua investigação centra-se na ideia um corpo que confronta um estado de descontinuidade, finitude e incerteza. Um corpo contemporâneo entendido como aquilo que já não tem a capacidade de formar-se, cedendo às suas próprias deformações inevitáveis – incessantemente torce, desmorona, fraqueja, cai, geme, bamboleia, tomba, dilacera-se, se desestrutura-se. Nos últimos anos, participou de exposições como a 48a, 49a e 50a Anual de Arte FAAP, no Museu de Arte Brasileira, São Paulo [2016, 2017, 2018]; "Exercício", Galeria Jaqueline Martins, curadoria de Marcio Harum, São Paulo [2017]; "Respirar sem oxigênio", Galeria Millan, curadoria de Regina Parra, São Paulo [2017]; "Lotada", Edifício Lutetia, curadoria Marcos Moraes, São Paulo [2019].

The Artist Talks offer the community a chance to meet the artists-in-residence at Zaratan and to gain insight into the creative process. 
On October 19, at 6pm, Katharina Karrenberg & Julia Gallo
 introduce briefly thei artistic practices and research themes.

>>> KATHARINA KARRENBERG is a German visual artist with over 30 years of career. Through his artistic practice, she questions how images change when they come into contact with other images from different epistemological fields and epochs, often using historical archives and other databases. During the last years she has been developing a photographic technique called reflectography that allows her to combine heterogeneous images and techniques in front of the computer screen. 
Currently in residency at Zaratan, she is researching the varied and heterogeneous line systems that are used on sea charts of the 15th and 16th centuries – especially in Portugal. Sea maps of this time - called Portolan charts - were not only used as shipping lines but had a lot of different shapes and functions connected to mathematical systems, sea monsters, wind heads, gold rush fantasies and so on. At the same time the artist explores what connection lines can be made between portolan charts, African Colon(ial) figures of the 19th and 20th centuries and the ongoing Mediterranean dramas.This current project, titled GHOSTS IN THE ARCHIVE, is the fourth part of a documentary series titled An·Archive,, which stores 2000 drawings of R.A.U.S.CH._PASSAGE as a folder system.  Katharina Karrenberg studied Visual Communication (Mainz), Sociology and Psychology (Frankfurt/Berlin). >>>  JULIA GALLO lives and works in São Paulo. Bachelor of Fine Arts from FAAP, she integrated from 2015 to 2018 the Group of research and practice in painting under the guidance of artists Regina Parra and Rodolpho Parigi, and the Monitoring Group of Projects, taught by artist Thiago Honório and curator Ana Paula Cohen, in 2019. Drawing, painting and animation are the main poetic instruments that the artist uses to bring issues related to body and movement. From a fictional universe, her research focuses on the idea of ​​a body that confronts a state of discontinuity, finitude and uncertainty. A contemporary body understood as that which no longer has the capacity to form, yielding to its own inevitable deformations - incessantly it twists, crumbles, weakens, falls, moans, wobbles, tumbles, tears, breaks down.
