Dia Nacional dos Castelos - Visita ao Pôr-do Sol

Último reduto de proteção para as gentes da cidade de Lisboa, o Castelo de S. Jorge, assumiu-se ao longo de toda a Idade Média, como um local com um forte carácter militar e de espaço de poder, ao qual se veio a associar, a partir de meados do século XIII, mas sobretudo do século XIV ao inicio do século XVI, um carácter áulico importante, com a instalação do Paço Real e as vivências próprias da Corte. 

Para comemorar o DIA NACIONAL DOS CASTELOS o Castelo de S. Jorge preparou uma visita orientada de identificação e interpretação de alguns aspetos morfológicos dos castelos, observáveis no Castelo de S.  Jorge, contextualizando as alterações que foram sendo introduzidas ao sabor dos tempos adequando-o a funções mais simbólicas e cortesãs, mas integrando as inovações próprias da transição da fortificação medieval para a fortificação moderna.

The last refuge for the peoples of the city of Lisbon, the Castelo de S. Jorge represented, throughout the Middle Ages, a place with a strong military character and a place of power. From the mid-13th century onwards, but particularly from the 14th to the beginning of the 16th centuries, it also took on an important aulic character, with the establishment of the Royal Palace and the events of the court itself.

To celebrate NATIONAL CASTLE DAY, the Castelo de S. Jorge has prepared a guided tour aiming to identify and interpret some of the structural features of castles, which can be observed at the Castelo de S. Jorge. We’ll be contextualising the modifications which took place over time and which left it more suitable for symbolic and ceremonial duties, but will also be looking at some of its own particular innovations in the transition from medieval fortification to modern fortification.
