CONVERSA Parting with the Bonus of Youth – Maumaus as Object Com / With Simon Thompson, Jürgen Bock, Tobi Maier (conversa em inglês / conversation in english) A exposição reúne obras de arte com objetos de interesse, procurando traduzir noções de arte e complexidades pedagógicas numa exposição. As obras apresentadas (bem como os objetos de interesse exibidos no contexto da arte) “operam” por si próprios, enquanto acenam ou piscam o olho à ideia de documentário através da negociação dos termos da arte, da educação e da própria exposição. Uma caricatura séria poderá ser reconhecida. Os objetos apresentados são ambíguos, os seus significados oscilam entre objetos não-artísticos e não-não artísticos, referenciando exposições, o mercado da arte, a problemática do estacionamento, audiências, o jogo de badminton, a altura do teto da galeria Lumiar Cité da Maumaus, a pastelaria portuguesa (metade do diâmetro de um bolo de arroz), mobiliário, molduras de faia, os livros de Enver Hoxha na sede das Nações Unidas em Genebra (Alberto Toscano) e noções de tradução no filme Inside Man de Spike Lee, bibliotecas, cinema e sociedade, Family Guy, canais de notícias, conversas entre plataformas de tesoura elétricas e fotocopiadoras, museus de futebol, a sindicalista Maria João, os artistas Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro e João Viotti, o etno-poeta Hubert Fichte, a fracassada dança da centopeia de Pina Bausch e os teóricos e cineastas Alexander Kluge e Manthia Diawara. Jürgen Bock é diretor da Maumaus, organização que desenvolve um Programa de Estudos de Residências e gere o espaço expositivo Lumiar Cité. Simon Thompson é um artista plástico inglês que vive e trabalha em Bruxelas. Tobi Maier é o Diretor das Galerias Municipais. [ENG] The exhibition brings together several works of art alongside objects of interest in an attempt to render notions of art and pedagogic complexity visible in an exhibition. The presented artworks (as well as the objects of interest presented in the context of art) ‘function’ on their own, while making a nod and a wink to the idea of the documentary through negotiating the terms of art, education and the exhibition itself. Serious caricaturisation may be on the cards. The objects presented are ambiguous, their meanings oscillating between non-art and non-non art objects, referencing exhibition displays, the art market, parking problems, audiences, Badminton, the height of the ceiling of the Maumaus gallery Lumiar Cité, a Portuguese pastry (half the diameter of a rice cake), furniture, beech framing, Enver Hoxha writings at the United Nations Headquarters in Genève (Alberto Toscano), and notions of translation in Spike Lee’s film Inside Man, libraries, film and society, Family Guy, news channels, conversations between cherry pickers and photo-copy machines, football museums, unionist Maria João, artists Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro and João Viotti, the ethno-poet Hubert Fichte, Pina Bausch’s failed millipede dance, and the theorists and filmmakers Alexander Kluge and Manthia Diawara. Jürgen Bock is the director of Maumaus, an organisation that runs a Study and Residence Programme and the exhibitions space Lumiar Cité. Simon Thompson is a British artist who lives and works in Brussels/ Tobi Maier is the Director of the Municipal Galleries.
