Protocinema apresenta Of Our Own Making, uma série de filmes dos artistas: Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme (Palestina), Ahmet Öğüt (Turquia); Hera Büyüktaşcıyan (Turquia); Vajiko Chachkhiani (Georgia); Lara Ögel (Turquia); Hale Tenger (Turquia); and Theo Triantafyllidis (Grécia). O programa é comissariado por Mari Spirito e Asli Seven. Projetado em parceria com a RAMPA no sábado, 22 de Junho, estes artistas projetam vozes e preocupações das suas regiões mas oferecem simultaneamente uma visao empática em relação a experiências partilhadas universalmente. (for English please scroll down) — SINOPSE Of Our Own Making reflecte sobre temas relacionados com os constrangimentos da vida urbana e os impactos psicológicos das mudanças sociais – antigas, históricas e futuras - a partir de diversas perspectivas. Hera Büyüktaşcıyan, Vajiko Chachkhiani, Lara Ögel, e Hale Tenger servem-se de contos populares e histórias contadas em narrativas contemporâneas, que muito embora tenham mudado em aparência, permanecem de alguma forma semelhantes, se considerados sob uma perspectiva diferente. O vídeo de Theo Triantafyllidis é um registo performativo em realidade virtual que discorre sobre a forma como ideias e imagens foram criadas no passado, enquanto representadas no presente e no futuro. Basel Abbas e Ruanne Abou-Rahme, e Ahmet Öğüt trabalham com determinados indivíduos e eventos recentes como forma de protesto de políticas implementadas e corpos governativos que são inequivocamente injustos. Abbas e Abou-Rahme criaram avatars de si próprios e de participantes da “marcha de retorno” da fronteira de Gaza. Öğüt trabalha com agentes da polícia na cidade do México a quem foram negados segurança e cuidados de saúde. O programa é organizado pela equipa composta por Mari Spirito, diretora executiva do Protocinema, e Asli Seven, curadora independente e investigadora sediada em Istambul e Paris. Projected at, and in partnership with RAMPA on Saturday, June 22, these artists reflect voices and concerns of their regions as well as offering empathy towards shared universal experiences. Program curated by Mari Spirito and Asli Seven. Audience limited the size of the room. SYNOPSIS Of Our Own Making highlights themes of constraints of constructed urban life and psychological impacts of societal developments - ancient, historical and forthcoming - from multiple perspectives. Hera Büyüktaşcıyan, Vajiko Chachkhiani, Lara Ögel, and Hale Tenger utilize folktales, history and story-telling in contemporary narratives to address aspects of societies that may have changed yet remain the same in a different guise. Theo Triantafyllidis’ video is a recording of a VR (Virtual Reality) live performance, which carries ideas of how images and ideas had been created in the past, while fully in the future-present. Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme and Ahmet Öğüt work with specific individuals and recent events to speak out against policies in place by governing bodies that are unequivocally unjust. Specifically, Abbas and Abou-Rahme, have created avatars based on themselves and participants of the “March of Return” that took place on the Gaza border and Öğüt works with city policemen in Mexico who have been denied safety and healthcare. The program is co-organized by Protocinema’s Executive Director, Mari Spirito, in collaboration with Asli Seven, an independent curator and researcher based in Istanbul and Paris. Featured artists have received or are currently working on future Site-aware commissions, Protocinema’s international program. These artists share a dynamic affinity and are committed to raising consciousness on a range of issues often using personal narratives to interrogate socio-political and racial constructs.
