Sábados no Castelo - Bô é o asno que me leva

Quem longa vida deseja, deseja ver-se enganar. Pois que lhe vejo chamar vida, não que vida seja, senão um modo de falhar. E pois no triste acabar se começa o desengano, não sei quem vai desejar que dure vida de engano.
	Muito tenho por fazer e não tenho feito nada.

Composição de tragicomédia e de suas muitas contradições.

Quanto aos assuntos que servem de substância (matéria) às suas peças, Gil Vicente segue a tradição grega, e coloca em cena a História, os conflitos humanos, sociais e políticos, retirados da própria História bem em cima dos acontecimentos, em cada momento da sua própria existência. 

Tragicomédia terá sido, porventura, uma designação para as obras que, como as de Gil Vicente, incluíam numa mesma figura os homens melhores (superiores ao que são - tragédia) e os piores (inferiores ao que são, ridículos - comédia), tal como Aristóteles havia considerado na Poética. 

No espetáculo ‘Bô é o Asno que me leva’ assiste-se ao desfile das personagens de Gil Vicente e das suas características inferiores em toda a sua vileza. Utilizando em cena retábulos daquilo que o Teatro Vicentino nos oferece, um multiforme microcosmos numa alegre procissão de todos os estratos sociais da sua época, poderemos estruturar num espetáculo performativo, um desfile de personagens alegóricas que constituem a sua crítica da época e a visão que teve da sociedade em que viveu. Uma crítica aos vícios, hábitos e costumes dessa sociedade, pontuada pela venalidade da magistratura, o anti sionismo popular, o gosto exagerado das aparências, a pelintrice, os preconceitos populares e os conflitos entre o Poder Real e o Poder eclesiástico.

‘Bô é o Asno que me leva’ é uma pequena amostragem da obra de um autor que se constitui como uma lição de liberdade intelectual e um espelho da Filosofia da época em que viveu.

Whosoever for a long life wishes, wishes to see himself deceived. For what I see them call life, be not life, but rather a form of failing. And since in the sad ending, the undeceit begins, I don’t know who would wish that a life of deceit might endure.		   
I have much to do and have done nothing.

The composition of tragicomedy and its many contradictions.

In terms of the subjects which serve as the substance (material) for his plays, Gil Vicente follows the Greek tradition and places History centre-stage; the human, social and political conflicts drawn from History itself as they happened, at each moment of his own existence.

Tragicomedy was, perhaps, the term for literary works (like those of Gil Vicente) which included within one figure the best men (superior to what they are – tragedy) and the worst (inferior to what they are, ridiculous – comedy), just as Aristotle had done in his Poetics.  

The show ‘Bô is the donkey which carries me’ features a parade of Gil Vicente’s characters and all the vileness of their lowly traits. By making use of a reredos showing what Teatro Vicentino offers us (a multiform microcosm in the form of a cheerful procession depicting all the social strata of his time), we are able to construct a parade of allegorical characters representing his criticism of the age and how he viewed the society he lived in. A criticism of the vices, habits and customs of that society, punctuated by the venality of the magistracy, anti-Zionism amongst the people, excessive concern for appearances, pretentiousness, popular prejudices and the conflicts between Royal Power and Ecclesiastical Power. 

‘Bô is the donkey which carries me’ is a small sample of the work of an author that represents a lesson in intellectual freedom and is a mirror on the Philosophy of the age in which he lived.
