Slow Motion Tours Slow Motion Tours developes alternative touristic tours and programms with the aim of providing a different way to get to know and get involved into the local realities. Our main focus is in allowing our participants to get to know the local reality in a deep and significant way instead of “entretaining” “passing by” tourists. So our tours are not conventional touristic tours. Actually, perhaps, we can´t even call it “touristic tours” but something more like a local experience. They´re focused on social, ecological and cultural aspects, in spite of the fact that history is always a very relevant element. Therefore we guide participants through the less well known side of Porto. Eco-Social Tourism by Slow Motion Tours Eco-Social Tourism is based in several essential aspects: - The focus is to educate, to experience, to make aware of the local realities, much more than practicing the conventional models of tourism and entertainment - We work mostly with smaller groups because for us it´s essential not to have a too big local impact and also to allow a better and deeper interaction between participants them selves and with the local reality - We work to benefit the local community instead of “exploting” them Slow Motion Tours is developed byTerramote351 Project, an independent cultural project based on the development of alternative tourism and eco-social education. SMT3B - B of Vitória B Vitória is formed by what can be considered as a quite significant part of the city heart. In this area of Vitória you can find a very significant part of the city traditional trade and shops. Also some of the most known monuments but this side of Vitória is much behind that … What you might find more about: where´s the old road connecting Porto with Santiago, the Fearless General, the court of justice that used to be a … fish market, the bakeries square, what´s a “mamarracho”, the oldest café in the city that is not the oldest café in the city, the smallest house in Porto, where´s “Jardim de João Chagas” - the question that 99% of the locals will not know to answer, why Portugal entered on the I World War, among many other relevant aspects of Porto and Portugal history, culture, society and ecology. SMT4 – Miragaia – a place of legends Miragaia is one of the disctricts that makes part of the so called historical centre. It´s a land of magic legends and a place deep connected with the Douro River, with the naval construction so in each step you find stories, legends, places related with such deep relation and identity What you might find more about:what´s Porto patron saint (and perhaps it´s actually not S.João), where´s Rua dos Banhos or Rua do Ouro – that actually are not there any more, the “bloody” legend of “Gaia”, where was the jewish cemitery, what´s the “Bandeirinha da Saúde”, the dolphin that looks like … anything but a dolphin, among many other relevant aspects of Porto and Portugal history, culture, society and ecology. SMT Mts – Matosinhos – A Land of Fishermen and Sailors *(2) Matosinhos is a city since ever deeply connected to the sea. Known by its very authentic fishermen community, it´s a place with a lot to see and to get to know besides the coast and the beach it self. It´s still surprising how such an interesting place, so near from Porto, is still so much “out” of the touristic circuits. What you might find more about: what´s the real name of the “Anémona”sculpture, what´s a “mamarracho”, what was the former name of Matosinhos, the connection between Matosinhos and the portuguese land of opportunities in the XIX century:Brasil, the legend of the roman man that rided his horse into the sea, among many other relevant aspects of Matosinhos and Portugal history, culture, society and ecology.
