Exposições individuais seleccionadas: even if at heart we are uncertain of the will to connect, there is a common future ahead, Narrative projects, Londres (2018); A Matter of Trust, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscovo (2017); banhados pela luz brilhante do pôr do sol, 3+1 Arte Contemporânea, Lisboa (2015); e Oikonomia: A Matter of Trust, MNAC - Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea do Chiado, Lisbon (2015). Exposições colectivas incluem: The fabric of felicity, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscovo (2018); Variations Portugaises, Centre d’Art Contemporain de Meymac (2018); Futures, CAC Vilnius (2017); You Are Now Entering_________, CCA Londonderry/Derry (2012); e Image Wars, Abrons Art Centre, Nova Iorque (2011). Entre 2009 e 2014, Noronha Feio foi director do The Mews Project Space em Londres. As suas obras foram incluídas na publicação “The Art of Not Making: The New Artist/Artisan Relationship”, bem como “Nature Morte: Contemporary Artists Reinvigorate the Still Life Tradition”, publicados por Thames & Hudson.

"Synergy [...] means the behavior of whole systems unpredicted by the separately observed behaviors of any of the system’s separate parts" Buckminster Fuller, Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth (1968)

3+1 Arte Contemporânea is pleased to announce (sunsight!)/(sunclipse!), a solo exhibition by artist Carlos Noronha Feio.

Through his multimedia work, Carlos Noronha Feio analyzes themes such as identity, nationalism and local and global culture. His practice seeks to question preconceived concepts of belonging by assimilating historical, geographical and political references, juxtaposing them to engender his own compositions.

In this exhibition, Noronha Feio will expand on his series of Arraiolo rugs which have been core objects of his artistic and theoretical investigation. Inspired by Afghan war rugs, the artist creates his own iconography around futuristic space scenes. By collaborating with local artisans, Noronha Feio places history and tradition in dialogue with the contemporary context and even imagery of the future. Complementing the rugs, the artist will also present the most recent component to his work – a set of texts or text excerpts in golden stainless steel installed throughout the gallery space. Two of them read the words of the exhibition title - (sunsight!) and (sunclipse!).

Carlos Noronha Feio seeks to build critical discourse around the culture system, questioning how we can position ourselves as individuals in relation to a whole.

Carlos Noronha Feio (Lisbon, 1981) holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art London and he lives and works in Lisbon, London and Moscow. Noronha Feio’s selected solo shows include: even if at heart we are uncertain of the will to connect, there is a common future ahead, Narrative projects, London (2018); A Matter of Trust, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2017); banhados pela luz brilhante do pôr do sol, 3+1 Arte Contemporânea, Lisbon (2015); and Oikonomia: A Matter of Trust, MNAC - Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea do Chiado, Lisbon (2015). Group shows: The fabric of felicity, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2018); Variations Portugaises, Centre d’Art Contemporain de Meymac (2018); 'Futures', CAC Vilnius (2017); You Are Now Entering_________, CCA Londonderry/Derry (2012); and Image Wars, Abrons Art Centre, New York (2011).
