Agroforestry Workshop in Alentejo, Portugal

The workshop "Development & Transition to Agroforestry Systems: Principles, Processes, and Financial Viability" is designed for agronomists, biologists, organic food producers, agriculture professionals or any interested in developing knowledge about the agroforestry technique. 

Besides learning the basic principles and processes of agroforestry, the course attendees will also benefit from a financial overview of the development of an agroforestry business. Take a look at the main topics the course will explore:

- Optimization of resources: Nature’s way to enrich ecosystems;
- Basic principles and techniques of agroforestry systems;
- Consorting plants, through stratification and succession of species;
- Using food production as a means to enrich ecosystems;
- Considerations on the financial viability of agroforestry systems;
...And lots of practical work!!

The workshop will be presented by the agronomist Felipe Caltabiano and Genaro Macedo, founders of the platform Agroforestry Academy, both of them Brazilians with extensive experience in the development and management of agroforestry systems in the Brazilian Cerrado. 

The course will take place in an amazing location in Alentejo, three minutes away from either the historical village of Monsaraz and the river beach at Lake Alqueva.

The complete course fee (€500) includes the 5-day workshop, all meals, double-bed accommodation and 2 cultural activities (a night visit to the astronomical observatory and a sailboat tour at Lake Alqueva). 

After many requests, we have created a weekend-only option for the people with a tight schedule. The €220 fee includes the introductory module of the workshop, 1 night in double-bed accommodation, all meals, and a night visit to the astronomical observatory.

In case you can only attend a shorter period, you do not want accommodation, or you need to change any other conditions, do not hesitate to contact us to check our flexible fees.

The course will be presented in English and Portuguese (both instructors are bilingual so we can benefit from simultaneous translation)

Felipe Caltabiano is an Agronomist and agroforestry farmer. 
With over 8 years of experience with agroforestry, he has focused his work on the production of eggs, fruits, and vegetables in Agroforestry Systems in his farm Sítio Nossa Terra. 
During graduation, he was dedicated to the study and research of the financial viability of Agroforestry Systems, which was the theme of his graduate thesis. 
As a consultant, he has lectured courses and provided assistance in various states of Brazil and Mozambique. 
And now, for the first time, he comes to Portugal to share his experiences and knowledge in Portuguese soil.

Genaro Macedo is a Brazilian-British citizen who, since 2011, has been researching about agroforestry systems, taking part in several courses taught by Ernst Gotsch and at Sitio Semente. 
Pioneer in integrating horses in his food forest, he owns "Sitio do Jazz", a farm located in Brasilia, Brazil where he has a project to recover ecosystems through food production. 
Member of the Association of Agroforestry System Producers (ASPROSAF), he is also responsible and co-founder of the Agroforestry Academy which intends to teach agroforestry all around the world!
