[for English please scroll down] PROGRAMA 6 28.02.2019 | 18h30 Goethe-Institut, Auditório Une jeunesse allemande (2015, 93 Min.) de Jean-Gabriel Périot Discussão: Alain Brossat, Jean-Gabriel Périot As obras de arte, nomeadamente aquelas que trabalham a partir de material documental, podem oferecer um apelo particularmente desafiante para refletir sobre a realidade. Enquanto a ligação indexante à realidade que abordam garante ao som e à imagem uma credibilidade especifica, a postura do artista, a sua escolha estética, temática e política, bem como a posição autorreflexiva, podem gerar uma avaliação critica sobre a constituição dessa realidade. É neste ponto que a arte encontra a filosofia. A reflexão sobre a relação entre o mundo factual e a sua apropriação subjetiva, questionando as reivindicações hegemónicas de objectividade e autoridade e problematizando as contradições inerentes à sociedade, são, por imanência, questões filosóficas. Problematizar a realidade – encontros entre arte, cinema e filosofia é um conjunto de programas que decorre de uma parceria entre IFILNOVA (CineLab) / FCSH / UNL, Goethe-Institut Portugal e Maumaus / Lumiar Cité e em colaboração com Apordoc / Doc’s Kingdom. Estes encontros internacionais entre artistas e investigadores focam-se no momento em que a arte, o cinema e a filosofia se entrelaçam num diálogo produtivo. No sexto programa o encontro é entre o filósofo Alain Brossat e o cineasta Jean-Gabriel Périot, numa discussão em torno do filme Une jeunesse allemande (Jean-Gabriel Périot, 2015). Através de uma complexa montagem de diversos materiais audiovisuais - incluindo filmes experimentais de estudantes da DFFB (Deutsche Film - und Fernsehakademie Berlin), excertos de programas de televisão e de atualidades, e extratos de proeminentes filmes de autor das décadas de 1960 e 1970 -, Une jeunesse allemande procura traçar a politização das gerações mais jovens da então Alemanha Ocidental. Em última instância, esta politização levou à formação do grupo Baader-Meinhof e à sua luta armada, bem como à sua ligação com a política de representação e a produção de imagens . Imagens de protestos por movimentos de esquerda contra as duradouras estruturas fascistas da Alemanha capitalista, no período pós-nazi, são entrelaçadas com declarações de intelectuais e artistas. Estes, por sua vez, são colocados perante imagens que denotam o enviesamento ideológico da comunicação social e as reações das autoridades, invariavelmente exigindo um aumento da repressão estatal. A constelação resultante não só permite uma abordagem dialética do clima político tenso da época, como também convida a uma reflexão crítica sobre o uso político das imagens e a instrumentalização de noções como terrorismo, democracia, esfera pública e resistência. Alain Brossat (1946) vive e trabalha em Paris. É Professor no Departamento de Filosofia da Université Paris VIII. O seu trabalho abrange os campos da topografia do terror, da deportação e internamento na Europa de Leste e na União Soviética, dos regimes terroristas e pessoas desaparecidas, bem como da estética e das políticas do cinema, com foco em autores como Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Hannah Arendt, Walter Benjamin, Norbert Elias, Pierre Clastres, Zygmint Bauman, Jacques Rancière, Alain Badiou e Giorgio Agamben. As suas publicações mais recentes incluem: “Ce que peut le cinéma – conversation” (com Jean-Gabriel Périot, 2018), “Interroger l'actualité avec Michel Foucault, Téhéran 1978 / Paris 2015?” (com Alain Naze, 2018), “Le plébéien enragé. Liu, 2011). Jean-Gabriel Périot (1974) vive e trabalha em Paris. Entre o documentário, a animação e o cinema experimental, a maioria do seu trabalho aborda a violência e a história. Realizou diversas curtas-metragens, desenvolvendo um estilo particular no trabalho de montagem a partir de arquivos. O seu trabalho de curta duração, incluindo Dies Irae (2005), Eût-elle été criminelle... (2006), Nijuman no norei (2007) e The Devil (2012), foi exibido em inúmeros festivais e homenageado com prémios. Une jeunesse allemande (2015), o seu primeiro documentário de longa-metragem, abriu a secção Panorama da Berlinale 2015, recebeu prémios em vários festivais e foi posteriormente lançado nas salas de cinema francesas, alemãs e suíças. Natsu no hikari (Summer Lights, 2016), a sua primeira longa-metragem de ficção, estreou no Festival de Cinema de San Sebastian, em 2016, e foi exibido noutros festivais antes de ser lançado nas salas de cinema francesas, em 2017. While their indexical link to the reality they address grants images and sounds a specific credibility, the position of the artist, her aesthetic, thematic and political choices and self-reflexive stance, may generate a critical assessment of the very constitution of reality. At such a point, art meets philosophy. In order to reflect on the relationship between the factual world and its subjective appropriation, questioning hegemonic claims to objectivity and problematising the inherent contradictions of society are inherently philosophical issues. Problematising reality – Encounters between art, cinema and philosophy is a series of projections and discussions, in a partnership between IFILNOVA (CineLab) / FCSH / UNL, Goethe-Institut and Maumaus / Lumiar Cité and in collaboration with Apordoc / Doc’s Kingdom. These encounters between artists and researchers of international renown focus on the very moments where art, cinema and philosophy enter into a productive dialogue. The sixth edition of this series of conversations-cum-screenings will feature the philosopher Alain Brossat and the French filmmaker Jean-Gabriel Périot, who will discuss Périot’s film Une jeunesse allemande (A German Youth, 2015) after the film’s showing. Through a complex montage of diverse audiovisual material – including experimental student films from the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (German Film and Television Academy), excerpts from television shows and newsreels, and extracts from prominent films from the 1960s and 1970s – A German Youth seeks to retrace the politicisation of the younger generations in West Germany at that time. This policisation ultimately led to the formation of the Baader-Meinhof group and its armed resistance, and its connection to the production of specific images and the politics of representation. Footage of left-wing protests against the enduring fascist structures in capitalist Post-Nazi Germany is interwoven with statements by intellectuals and artists. These are, in turn, set off against footage showing the ideological bias of the media and the reactions of the authorities, invariably demanding an increased repression by the state. The ensuing constellation not only enables a dialectical approach to the tense political climate of the time, but also invites a critical reflection on the political use of images and the instrumentalisation of notions such as terrorism, democracy, public sphere and resistance. Alain Brossat (1946) lives and works in Paris. He is Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Université Paris VIII. Liu, 2011). Jean-Gabriel Périot (1974) lives and works in Paris. He directed several short movies and developed his own, distinct editing style with archival material. Oscillating between documentary, animation and experimental film, most of his work deals with violence and history. His short films, including Dies Irae (2005), Eût-elle été criminelle... (Even If She Had Been A Criminal…, 2006), Nijuman no norei (2007) and The Devil (2012), have been shown at numerous festivals and honoured with many prizes. His first documentary feature film, Une jeunesse allemande, opened the Panorama section of the Berlinale 2015, and having received many awards, was released in France, Germany and Switzerland. Natsu no hikari (Summer Lights, 2016), his first fiction feature film, premiered at the San Sebastian film festival 2016 and was subsequently shown at festivals before its release in French cinemas in 2017.
